Anyone know if the syrup is vegan?

Their website description makes it sound like it's just their normal vanilla syrup (which is vegan) with cardamom added.

I had it this morning and it's really really good! I was just nervous because I was the idiot drinking pumpkin spice lattes not knowing about the milk in the syrup. I can't find an ingredient list online. I need to overcome my shyness and just ask a barista to see the bottle. I didn't know if any PPK members worked there or asked already.

It does sound like it's just a spiced version of their regular vanilla, but I'll ask next time I'm at Starbucks (which is pretty rare these days). As a former five-year Starbucks barista - please don't be shy to ask if something has dairy! They've probably been asked already and will know, but even if they don't it's really not that big a deal to just look at the bottle (or show it to you if you want to check for yourself).

Funny to see this - I just had a Sbux VS soy latte yesterday, and I told my husband last nite that perhaps the syrup DID contain some milk product - because my stomach was in a bit of icky distress afterward (similar to when I've had cheese on rare occasions).

I'd not eaten anything out of the ordinary, so I assumed the syrup was the culprit. Of course, it could have been their soy milk, or...? Mixed bag when consuming products outside the home.

The barista told me that it is just a regular bottled syrup.

VeganVamp eating out is definitely tricky. We don't allow our oldest daughter to get soy steamers anymore because she has been given cows milk accidentally one too many times. She will violently puke for the rest of the day. Not worth the risk in my opinion. I'll feel gross because I'm not used to it but I'm not allergic like her. Some days I wish I was. My sbux addiction is expensive!

The VS latte didn't make me feel gross so maybe you got cows milk? Or something else made you sick? Sorry you didnt feel well!

When I was a Starbucks barista, I used to show the bottles to people all the time, especially if they said they were vegan (although I wasn't vegan at the time). It's how I learned about the whole 'is honey vegan?' thing! So don't be shy, you might even be educating someone.

This thread makes me want to make a spiced vanilla syrup.

I got one today (Christmas gift of a Starbucks card, I'm still holding a grudge if anyone's keeping tabs) and I pretty much hated it. But I never liked vanilla lattes so I don't know what I was expecting.

Tomorrow I'm going to have to try a vanilla spice soy misto. I hope it's amazing!

My usual barista steered me away from it--she said its kind of gross, especially for a cold drink (what I usually get).

It's made with half drip coffee half steamed milk, also called a cafe au lait or cafe con leche. A latte is all steamed milk with a couple of shots of espresso. I like them because they are lower calorie and not as thick as a latte.

Ah, thank you. I have recently switched from lattes to drip coffee with a splash of soy as lattes were too thick and too $$$! I just realized that with drip coffee I could be getting free refills with my Starbucks card?

I think they're still a bit more than a regular coffee, but so delicious! I think with the soy upcharge it's $3.40 for a venti.

Yes, this was not good cold. However if you are a fan of vanilla lattes (my go to drink) and cardamom I recommend trying it hot at least once for something different. I won't cry if they stop selling it though.

It is true that it is the real "cafe con leche"

On the other hand because people wanted a cafe con leche with espresso instead of drip coffee, the stores here have a signature beverage that have that name but is a short cup (8oz) with 2 shots and milk, is a cultural thing, we don't like huge cups, we drink multiple smallers, and we like to feel the strong kick that's why its not drip (which is less stronger to the palate).

Mistos here are not that popular, but they are cheaper!
