tapatio fritos? Fritos are my favorite thing. My cousin works for frito-lay, I should ask him and tell him to send me as much as he can.

I want to track these down and nom them! I have to say, to my surprise, I ate pretty well in Croatia, especially on the coast. Inland, closer to Bosnia, and in Bosnia itself, was harder. FeweR veggies and more meat. But on the coast, I found loads of super tasty veggie dishes I really loved. Plus, there was delicious bread everywhere. And lots of good vegan cookie options in the supermarkets. Thank you for telling me about Bajadera! They had so many boxes of these, but I'd never looked at them before. I bought a small box (which still has a lot of candy in it!) and am going to send half to my sister along with some chocolate cherries and napolitanke!

The Tapito Ruffles are the best (vegan) chips on the planet.
Source: My taste buds.
(my SO says the doritos are better though. I try to think that he has messed up taste buds to make myself feel better)

Sadly they are nowhere to be found in downtown Seattle. I wandered several places on my afternoon break because suddenly Tapatio Ruffles sounded like the best thing on the planet. So much for instant gratification!

O/T: Fritos smell like dogs to me. Tapatio Fritos would smell like Tapatio Dogs. My boyfriend is annoyed that they might be discontinued, though.
On topic: It annoys me when people expect me to know every goddamned thing about things like honey production or sheep shearing. I know some stuff, like honey is food for bees, and that beekeepers do cruel things to the queen bee, and that sheep are...uh...okay, I don't know that much about shearing, on any level, but shearing seems cruel. So, I don't eat honey and I don't buy new wool (actually, I'm pretty sure I don't own any wool at all). That's it, it's pretty simple. But some people want me to have a meticulously fact-checked presentation as to why I make these choices. I mean, no one asks me for a list of reasons as to why I don't punch babies in the face. I just don't do it, because it's just not cool to punch babies. Why do I need any other reason?

Sassy, that drives me bonkers. Most of the time I just shrug and respond with, "Honestly, I don't know specific facts because (I haven't had the time to really research it / I don't personally care for bees but hate honey, etc.), but it's easy to avoid and I don't need to use/eat/consume it, so I don't." That usually gets an 'Ah, okay.' response.
I'm annoyed because one of the TWO vegans I've recently met just reverted back to vegetarian. For eggs. Because her boyfriend made them all the time. Eggs?! EGGS? Those smelly things??? I mean, at least make it something delicious, like Ben and Jerry's ice cream, or really fancy brie, or cream cheese. Eggs??? I'm mostly being sarcastic, but eggs? You went vegetarian for eggs?! BAH!

Right now my biggest vegan pet peeve is gas. I love vegan food, but daggone. My belly hurts! Too many beans!

I just started my winter term at school. One of the classes I'm signed up for is Urban Farm, which is really awesome, and is basically just gardening and mulching and pruning fruit trees and starting seeds in a greenhouse. But during the instructor introductions, two of the instructors talked a lot about animal husbandry being one of their major interests, and one went into a lot of detail about a potbelly pig that was raised and slaughtered on campus last year, and that its head was now in the freezer. And they're going to make head cheese. Out of the bits that most Americans don't consider food. And then she asked who in the class of about 30 people eat meat, and I was the only person who didn't raise my hand.
These people are all about living off the land, and subsistence farming, and eating locally, and feeding themselves instead of buying factory farmed meat. I know it's better than what the majority of people do. And they are making conscious decisions about their food. They're not ignorant. I guess my vegan pet peeve is that even though I know what they're doing is better for animals than people eating at McDonalds (or meat of that nature), it kind of bothers me more. It's hard to reconcile.

Nuts.
Rooted around in the cupboard the other day and found a pack of salt and pepper cashews. I love cashews so thought mm, something nice to snack on. Was halfway through (yes I'm greedy) when my fiance pointed out the ingredient list, contains lactose. Who puts milk in cashews?! Salt and pepper, just put some bloody salt and pepper on it!
Also dreams, I had a dream that they made a really nice dairy free brie, which they sold in Tesco. It was delicious. I miss it :( I have this dream that when I'm old more people will be either vegan or dairy intolerant so we'll get nicer vegan chocolate and stuff like that. I can be a fat old lady.

Recipes that call for 1lb of tofu, but all the kinds that I buy are in 14oz packages.
Usually, I just tweak the ingredients and its fine, but it has forked me up before.

More generally, I have no sense of how much a pound is, and lack a scale. Any time any recipe calls for a pound of something, more often than not I realize after the fact that what I actually put in was two or three pounds, and then I try to increase everything else to match... Which isn't really a bad thing, because then I have enough food to last me for over a week.
