I tried their garlic and chives cheese recently, and it was pretty delicious (I had it on some fancy lavosh crackers with sliced apple). Definitely very expensive, and I probably could have made it myself at home if I'd really wanted to, like you said, but the convenience is nice and the jars are also quite pretty (and nice to re-use). I have yet to try any of the sweets, but I was pretty tempted when I was at Naturally on High yesterday.

There are like four people in Canberra at the moment. I should have stayed in Adelaide longer, I'm the only one at work and it's the most boring thing in the world.
But! There are a couple of good things here! There's a new vegan bakery/cafe which is super awesome, AND the cafe in my work building has started getting vegan things. It's looking like a less-terrible year to be Canberran!

It's called Sweet Bones and it's in Braddon. A heap of stuff has moved into the Lonsdale St Traders warehouse building (like a few of the cute shops that were next to Debacle) and it's in there. It's a bit pricey but I'm not sure whether that's because they're still sort of starting up. But it's really good! Bonsoy as far as the eye can see.

Yay for more vegan eats! I'm back at work too, but there's not much to do ;)

ahhh, Braddon. damn. better Braddon than nowhere I guess..and I couldn't honestly imagine anything too veg-ish surviving on the south :( would be nice even to be in Ainslie or something though.. a bit of variety in location of hangouts is nice

Spoken like a true Canberran- 'more than ten minutes away? fork it, too far'. But Braddon does also kind of suck because there's nowhere to park. I don't think anything has changed down south, but I subsist primarily on a diet of pure burrito now so what do I know.

heh, if it helps, it's because I'm usually staying in Gordon without a car - so it's bike of orange chariot.. neither of which are great options.
I have a mate that told me yesterday that he's in Canberra for a few days. he's not vegan, but I softened him up a while ago.. anyway, I sent him to Sweet Bones on a recon mission. vegan cupcakes better deliver!
also: "Sweet Bones" seems like a mildly ironic name for a vegan store

ahh, a friend of us runs the good food guide and we wanted to let her have the scoop, but she was supposed to post hers on Sunday, or something. I think James is going to go ahead and post ours today anyway. www.jamesandmatt.com.au - will let you know when it's up!

Ahh, okay. I think they're toying with the idea of staying open, but are still at Northey St markets. I liked Kind Living Cafe, but was confusing - because as much as they said they were vegan, they put honey in so many things (and were shady about it), and I think dairy even in some things (liked Iced chocolates). So confusing.

It's not even (comparatively) hot in Brisbane and I'm covered in a layer of perspiration.
Stay cool, folks!
PS Thanks for that round up of new places to eat! Will check out. Botanica looks up my alley, I love that type of food.

yeah. hopefully with a different owner things like that may at least be a bit more transparent. i think i need to actually go in and have a sniff around. with 2 little kids, i've been avoiding hanging out in town in this hot weather, it's not nice carrying a baby and keeping a 4 year old amused when it's so damn hot. when we go out, we head to a creek, not town :P

is there anything anyone wants from the US? I'm flying out to Oz in a couple of days (into Adelaide, if you wanted anything refrigerated..) and I've got a ton of room in my bags
