I bought some from Whole Foods it was gross. My purpose is for Artisan Vegan Cheese. However, I expect to have leftovers I will want to use up and like. Apparently soy yogurt does not last as long as soy because I was still going to try to use for something and it got moldy fast.

the only soy yogurt i buy is from the whole soy company, this has nothing to do with taste preference. it is the only brand of soy yogurt Earth Fare sells. i buy big tubs (24 ounces??) of soy yogurt, i think it is recommended that they are best consumed within 7 to 10 days, and i almost always finish them within that time frame and have never had any issues with the soy yogurt spoiling within that time frame. http://www.wholesoyco.com/I have noticed that Trader Joe's carries soy yogurt much cheaper. I didn't check to see if they sold plain but will next time I'm there, so if you have a TJ's you might want to check out their private brand.

I like whole soy unsweetened and silk plain, which is sweetened, but not very sweet. Wildwood is ok, but I don't love the texture.

Which one did you buy? I like Silk plain because it isn't very sweet. I find Whole Soy to be fairly sweet. Also the yogurt at TJs is super sweet to me.

Silk is he only one we carry, but they're screwing around with their packaging so we haven't had any at all for a few week. I can't figure out if they're keeping the plain at all!

I used to LOVE wildwood plain unsweetened - ate it like a fiend, but then a couple years ago, the yogurt became inconsistent every time I bought it, so I switched to Whole Soy plain unsweetened, which I find to be very good.

I like Whole Soy, or the Wildwood with (supposedly) extra probiotic cultures. The Wildwood is what I've been using for the AVC recipes, and has worked well. Also, it's been on sale at Grocery Outlet for $1.00. yessss. I bought 6.

The only unsweetened soy yogurt that I can find around here is whole soy, and I feel like it has a weird taste. If you can't find anything you like, try making your own. It's easier than you might think. And it's fine to use plain soy that's slightly sweetened as the starter because there is so little of it that you don't taste it in the final product.
I mentioned this on the AVC thread, but I make my yogurt using a thermos, and it's so easy it's ridiculous. Just follow the instructions for heating your milk, then whisk in the starter, and pour into a thermos. It will stay at just the right temperature for as long as you need.

That is a good question because I went to Whole Foods yesterday and they no longer had a spot for Silk larger containers, only Whole Soy. It'd make me sad if they no longer carried Silk.

I guess I'm super glad I have a yogurt maker! http://silk.com/products/blueberry-soy-fruity-creamy

I bought the wildwood twice and both times it was liquid. I like the Whole Soy unsweetened plain, but it's not for me, it is for my baby. I can't always find it though.

Grocery Outlet is the best. I could never justify the price soy yogurt otherwise.

I used to like wildwood, but then I read that someone thought it tasted like paste. Since then I couldn't stop tasting paste when I ate it. The power of suggestion? But I also did notice the texture was very inconsistent. At some point I want to start making my own soygurt again, but until then I put up with slightly-too-sweet plain whole soy.

Yeah, sometimes Wildwood is really soupy. And other times it's clumpy and kind of seems spoiled, even if it's well before its expiration date. I always feel like I'm taking a gamble when I buy it. (Part of this may be poor handling by Grocery Outlet. But... cheap.)

I remember having that problem with wildwood 6 or 7 years ago too. But I assumed they had fixed it since then. I'm going to try my hand at soy yogurt again tomorrow. I had some batches that didn't come out too great in the past so hopefully things will go better this time.

Bummer about the Silk plain :( I like the new packaging though.
Cherry is my favorite flavor though and it looks like it's now an almond milk yogurt with less than 1g of protein. Blah.
I do like the idea of a 4-pack though, which it appears they are now going to offer. Wonder if Meijer will sell it.

That's cool that they are making soy and almond yogurts but I really like having some protein in my breakfast.

We buy the tubs of plain and buy frozen berries and make our own yogurt cups. That is why it makes me sad to think the Silk yogurt is no more.

I tweeted Silk and said I was sad about no more big tubs of plain and they said they'll consider it or something.

Maybe it doesn't sell very well. I assume that's why places like Grocery Outlet end up with so much plain soy yogurt in the first place. They usually get overstock.
I always thought Silk plain was too sweet, anyway.

Working on cleaning out Meijer of the Silk Cherry yogurt while it's still soy...I bought 8, that was as far back as I could reach on the top shelf. They still had plain, dated 2/4/13.

So how do you make your own yogurt? Do you had a tablespoon of an existing yogurt to get it started or something similar?

Yeah, you need some storebought stuff to start out with, but then with a yogurt maker it's easy. i followed this. The first time I tried i had trouble because I was also kneading bread on my counter and that agitated the yogurt maker a lot. apparently it needs to sit relatively still during the process. http://ieatfood.net/2009/02/01/how-to-m ... oy-yogurt/
