I'm looking for the kind that comes out around the Holidays. I have a feeling they are a polish recipe, as my husband's mom is polish and it's something she has around a lot at the holidays. I love this bread and would love to try to make some that I can eat.

On the old boards, Lutin made a Polish poppy seed bread or cake. I don't know if she posted the recipe, but I remember looking at the pictures and thinking it looked really good.
Sorry, I'm not really helpful.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of makowiec, very similar to hungarian beigli, austrian mohnstriezel, and solvenian/croatian potica, sometimes misidentified as babka. A few folks have attempted veganizing makowiec specifically already: http://thatsonetoughcookie.com/2009/05/ ... -roulette/http://vegtasticvoyage.com/2008/12/20/poppy-seed-cake/And beigli: http://vegcraftfood.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... ut-or.htmlhttp://suprememastertv.com/veg/?wr_id=3 ... =&stx=rollReally, all you need is a slightly sweet yeast bread recipe that you're fond of, any poppy seed filling (I like poppy seeds cooked in almond milk then soaked overnight, cooked with with vanilla and cinnamon, citrus peel, walnuts or pecans, raisins, and a liquid sweetener then ground), and confectioner's glaze.

Hey! I pretty much never check the kitchen. Hilarious that I was googling to see if I could find my recipe form the old boards and found this. It's true, on the old boards I'd veganized one of my aunt's recipes. It was pretty close to this one ( http://thatsonetoughcookie.com/2009/05/ ... -roulette/) but with instructions on how to make the poppy seed filling. Basically, you have to boil the poppy seeds forever and then crush them into a paste with the food processor, then stir in whatever you want to add. The more poppies, the better! The rest is just yeasty cake and lemon drizzle.

I made one recently using a canned poppy seed filling and the babka dough from vegan dad. I saw on here that somone else had done it. No idea if it was authentic, but it was so good! I made a lemon glaze and it reminded me of entenmanns

I used vegan dad's babka dough and made my own filling (which didn't seem appreciably different than the canned filling of my childhood). It was delicious but the dough was a little too soft and cakey for my taste in poppy bread. Next time (since I have poppy filling in the freezer, there will be a next time), I'll try reducing the fat and increasing the flour in his recipe just a bit.
