Hamish is so adorable! I miss being around goats! My family had a couple of goats when I was, uh, a kid. (I think my mother had dreams of making her own cheese, or whatever. Didn't work out and we kept them as pets.) Goats are a lot of fun; man, can they get in trouble! They are escape artists. We often found ours happily sunning themselves on the roof of our car...

Hamish is getting so big! He is going to Tufts vet school to be neutered next week (Usually goats are just neutered on site by a traveling vet, but we wanted to make sure he would get proper anesthesia and pain meds, which, unfortunately, are not usually given to goats). And then about a week after he is neutered, he is going to a local farm animal sanctuary called Winslow Farm. I visited them a few years ago, and it was a really nice place! So we're very happy that Hamish will be going there and will have lots of goat friends.

Hamish was neutered yesterday and is now back at the shelter. He did very well. We had to give him a shot of painkiller this morning and he was pretty good about it. He got some cheerios afterward for being a brave boy! Now we just have to talk to the sanctuary and figure out a transport time that works for everyone. I will definitely go with him to see him settled in his new home. He is the best goat! I am going to miss him so much.
Awesome photo! Goat = love. Hamish is the best. I hope he has the most happiest forever home with lots of jumpy goat things and friends to fill his day.

I just got back from dropping Hamish off at his new home!
Here he is meeting his new goat friends! He will be living with them for a couple of weeks until he can be integrated into the goat herd (He has to stay away from females for a couple of weeks post neuter, just to be safe). He loves his new friends!
And here he is checking out his enclosure.
We also got a tour of the whole place while we were there. This was a turkey who was rescued from slaughter. He was detoed and debeaked, and as you can see, his feathers are all scraggly. But he is not afraid of humans at all. He kept parading in front of us to get our attention. Turkeys' heads are so soft!
This goat was just sitting inside the barn like this! We asked if he had a problem with his legs, and the woman said, "No, he just likes to sit down"!
The president of the animal league went with us and she took some pics, so if she sends them to me, I'll post them here. Hamish was SO happy to meet other goats. He was leaping and frolicking all around the pen. I'm going to miss him a lot, but he has a great home. If you live in or visit Massachusetts, I definitely recommend visiting them. http://www.winslowfarm.com/ They also need donations, especially cat food (people constantly abandon cats on their doorstep or throw them over the fence) and monetary donations.
