I used to use Shelfari a lot then everyone switched over to Goodreads, and I joined but I felt too grumpy to put in all my books again. But I've had enough time to get over that, so I'm adding the books I read in the last semester and I'll start doing reviews as I go from now on.

I used to be on Shelfari but I'm giving Goodreads a go. I've added you all in true stalker style. http://www.goodreads.com/RetroVegan

The recommendations feature is my favourite part - I've found some really awesome books that way!

It worked, but it screwed up my ratings, since two stars in Shelfari at least while I used it meant you didn't like it, and on Goodreads it means it was okay, and five stars meant loved it but on goodreads its IT WAS AMAZING.

brian wrote: Oh hey! I'm on this. http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/5998903-brianI read slowly. And I don't mean I read the words slowly, I mean I read sometimes before I go to bed, which means it takes me months to finish a book. That's how my husband reads. Exactly.

So, I looked into this again at the end of last year but got scared off by the fact that they encourage advertising/book promoting. I dislike having things pushed upon me. How does that work?
I'm mostly interested in collecting statistics, really. That means I do want to enter the exact copy I'm reading and lots of details (peferably I'd get information without entering everything manually). Having a shelf for every aspect seems really messy to me. Does anyone else use goodreads like that?
I'm not terribly good at being social (I refuse FaceBook and don't use my G+), but I poked around the public shelves of people on this page just to get a sense of what others are reading. My tastes seem to line up best with brian (although I couln't make it through Catch-22 and quite enjoyed Dune). Not sure if this info is helpful to me... I don't usually suffer from a lack of reading choices.

I'm stuck on the fourth Game of Thrones book right now, but I'm still (sort of) active, if anyone ends up adding me on there.
If I get stuck on a slow book, instead of reading something else while I work my way through it, I'll just go months and months without reading anything.

Sometimes I'll be reading one fiction, one non-fiction, but I find it hard to focus on more than one book at a time.

Are you one of those who remembers details about every book you read? I'm fascinated by people who can quote things from books they've read years ago. I do remember some details (and roughly what the book is about and what I thought of it), but rarely things like the names of the characters or stuff like that. Also I drew a complete blank when being asked about books featuring gay characters. Not because I haven't read them, I just don't find it an interesting enough detail to remember. Of course I also read a fair number of books each year (typically somewhere 50-70). I imagine it'd be easier to remember individual books if I only read a dozen or even less.

LazySmurf wrote: Fruitbat- I think you might like LibraryThing better. You can add details on everything and get very specific. I did look into LibraryThing as well, but didn't really like that either. And must it be so eye-searingly ugly? Shallow complaint, I know. There was something else I didn't like about LT but I forget (something actually related to functionality or possibly privacy since I'm terribly paranoid).

Well I'm kind of a utilitarian minimalist. LT is just an explosion of different clashing colours.

Maybe more recent reads that I was really into, but even rereading something that I really forking loved the first time, I have many "don't remember that at all" moments.

I've added a few of you but I didn't send a message, sorry! My reading really slowed down before the holidays because I was trying to get all of my knitting projects done. I really need to get back into reading though. http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/4162111-tijya
