Did anyone else watch this last night? Seems like it's going to be a great show, I thought the first episode was awesome. I was kind of surprised that Willam H Macy wasn't in it more as they almost made it seem like he was the lead roll, when really the focus is more on the lives of the kids.

This is a remake of a UK show? Why am I not surprised. I'll have to see if I can download the original somewhere.

I watched it! I thought it was good. I heard some people thought it was controversial, but I thought it was realistic. There are kids in the world that have to fend for themselves all the time. Maybe they feel like its glorified. I don't know.

I'm having trouble finding a character I like. It's not a moral issue, more of a personality issue. Hopefully it will change.

How are people feeling about this now that it's a few episodes in? I really like the brothers (well, the 2 oldest who we've heard from so far) and the Joan Cusack stuff but I really don't like Fiona. She's getting to almost be a dealbreaker for me.

Fiona is also bothering me. I get that the family just a huge enabling unit. It became clear when the boyfriend kidnapped him and dropped him off in Canada. The panic and effort that ensued was really sad I think that watching the family protect and enable the father's drinking is only going to go so far. Someone in the family is going to have to draw the line or the viewers are going to become so frustrated they'll stop watching.

I don't mind things like the younger daughter' devotion to the dad, because it's just kind of sad that she doesn't get how hurtful he is to them, but Fiona? Ugh, come on!

i rented the UK Shameless because my actor crush James McAvoy was in it, but i didn't get into it at all. I haven't seen the US version yet, but I like William H. Macy.

I rilly rilly like this show. I want to start watching the original on Netflix but I don't know if that would spoil it for me since I'm still watching the US version in season 2. I can't really tell ifs even a spoiler-type show since it doesn't seem to have an over-arching plot beyond Fiona's boring love life and the fact that they're broke. Has anyone seen both?

I just started watching this. I watched the entire first season in two days and now I need to catch up on Season 2. I totally got sucked into it. I love it so far. I had no idea it was a remake of a british show until I read this thread.

The US version has now officially gone on too long. Nothing that happens outside of their neighborhood makes any sense.
Good moments: Joan Cusack hanging up the phone on Frank, the neighbors' so-totally-offensive-it's-not-offensive-at-all web business, Debbie and the fence (so sad, I want to adopt her), that Joan Cusack and that guy are actually taking care of the baby and it's not that easy for them Bad/stupid moments: pretty much everything else

i love the US version! I'm worried about Fiona putting down the money to manage the club night.
Also, was that a deposit? Is she going to get it back?

I'm not usually a fan of US remakes of things and I think if I saw this I would actually cry.

Nebraskalaska, my guess is she's going to lose all the money and we will all be sad.

Yeah, that's probably a safe assumption. Then maybe we can just be pleasantly surprised instead!

Yeah that was what we came to when the other lady person was trying to warn her and Fiona was being all nope, I got it, let's do this.
Essentially she just bet on herself, so she's paying to rent out the club for a night (that costs $1,000) and the reason she'd take that bet is that she thinks she can pull in more than $1,000. So she'll get that back only if she makes that back by promoting the night really well and everything. So obviously that won't go seamlessly.
