I don't know if it was the hummus I had for breakfast or the green beans in the lunch salad, but I am farting SO. MUCH. I keep having to go out of the office just not to suffucate my colleague. This is getting ridiculous.

Totally! And how can they not be interested in outer space? It boggles the mind. Well, I suppose I was heavily influenced by the fact that the Apollo moon landing/space exploration era was the one I grew up in so there it was much more a part of the culture than it seems to be today. I'm still fascinated by Tang.

I have just a teeny bit more of my room to clean- like, it'll take me twenty forking minutes if I just do it- but internet!!!

Also, I'm horrified at the amount of crepe I've removed from my room. At least whenever I actually move out it won't be a shiitake ton of work. Okay, it probably will still be.

Something that sucks and totally sexist is the fact that if a woman outlives her husband she gets to keep receiving his social security checks as well as her own if she ever worked BUT if the husband outlives his wife, HER social security checks are no longer available to him and he has to live on a reduced income of only his social security check. Not fair at all. I know my mom was getting $600 a month in SS which helped pay certain bills each month. Now my dad has to find a way to pay those bills and live on what he's now getting. As if older people don't have bills to pay too.

That is ridiculous. You work so hard, and I'm always so impressed at the creative ways you make your class fun and engaging. I'm envious of the quality of your teaching! Those kids are insane.

Seriously. I would've loved that shiitake, and I wasn't really a science nerd (despite my abiding love for TNG).

Bizarrely, my jerk class who never like anything liked it all. I was shocked that my good natured first class didn't. I just can't predict this stuff anymore.

Now I've got 3 balloons of Tang left over.

Jerks! Every time you talk about your lessons on the PPK I wish I had a teacher like you in high school.

My car is beyond fooked. It is going to cost me a fortune in repairs. It is all wear and tear stuff but in the next few months there is going to be a few more things that will go wrong. Basically it isn't worth repairing so I know have to go shopping I need to be quick because my car basically isn't road worthy at present.

I totally didn't know Tang still existed. I thought it was banned? Maybe it was just banned from my house because my parents were vehemently against it, even though they let Kool-Aid slide.

I'm sorry that your students didn't like the lesson. But maybe they actually did but are way too "cool" to show it in the moment.

LW, do you have teacher mentors that you could talk to? It sounds really frustrating to put a lot of work into lesson plans and then have the kids not respond to them. And at the same time, you have mentioned that their appreciation of you is an important part of your retention, so I imagine that finding a way to have them enjoy your classes would be good for you both professionally and personally.

I have an appointment with a health care professional (RN/CDE) at a coffee shop this week. I'm weirdly excited to get health advice outside in such a comfy and relaxed location.

Thank God for you guys. I'm doing my boss's job this week and it's a NIGHTMARE (even though I quit that aspect of my job, but I got suckered in for just this week--long story) but anyway, every time my head's about to explode I just check in here and decompress. We do have resources, but the thing is, this isn't a me issue, but a school wide problem. Engagement is the subject of most of our meetings. That's what is keeping me sane!

I did get glimmers of interest during oceanography so Im hoping some of them like astronomy too. I'm just bummed my second period was weird today. Maybe it was the rain.

I just wish I knew why so many kids lose that curiosity they have in elementary school. Only two of my kids all day have been to see the space shuttle. This strikes me as a little sad since we are only a couple miles away, it's free, and they had all summer to go.
