TRS told us at supper tonight that he has a New Year's resolution: he's going to stop eating honey. (Mrs. Face will eat things with honey in them. And TRS never had a problem with this. It had come up, but was never any kind of issue.)

This morning Walter was angry at me because I wouldn't help him with some mundane task he can do by himself. He glared at me and said "I BLOOOOOOOW house in!" (We've been reading a lot of three little pigs lately.)

And yay TRS! That's really interesting. I wonder what led him to that? Nice when kids make those kind of choices for themselves!

Raygold got mad at me because I couldn't give him any OJ (there was an unopened box way too high for me to reach in the kitchen and he had to wait for Mr Crabby to wake up and get it for him and apple juice was not good enough) and said, "YOU...ARE...A...BABY!!" Which is a HUGE insult from him (he stopped wearing diapers this summer and insists he is NOT a baby and gets really mad if I call him one, even if it's in a nice way, like when I call him my baby boy).

My daughter in a moment of frustration yesterday said "you are a bully!" in a sort of weird situation where i was in no way being a bully, and it took me a second to realize she was just saying what was in the supernanny ad from discovery channel. [her english accent is crepe, which was why it took me a second]

Silas repeated the word "moron" after hearing it when I was watching that vegan (crepe) cooking show yesterday, so I told him it wasn't a nice word to say, so he replies "I'm so sorry. I won't say that annyyyyymorrreeeee..." gives me a really thoughtful look and says, "That man is a dickhead! That's a nicer word!".

I have NO IDEA where he learned that word, but I think I deserve mother of the year award for managing to not react in front of him and somehow hold my composure to tell him it's also not a nice word to say. I have to say, I'm kind of enjoying this say it once stage he's in. This level of cute kind of hurts.

AWESOME! it seems so funny to look back and remember when we wondered if these wee lovelies were ever going to talk at all.

We were visiting friends with kids over new years and at breakfast the 4 year old wanted a straw, which she tried to get by saying "mommy! I'm tired of using my arms to reach for my drink." I'm glad she she didn't get too mad when I laughed out loud.

torque, I think about that everyday and am incredibly thankful. We see the kids he started his therapies with still working so hard to learn to speak at all and realize that he was one of the fortunate ones that early intervention was able to help <3

OMG I love Silas. I snorted and am now grinning ear to ear. Silas, you are the best <3

I used to try to make up knock knock jokes and my mom kept telling me I didn't get it. Good times. My best was "apron" followed by "apron you going to open the door already?"

The Emperor climbed in bed with me this morning and started jabbing me in te back with his finger.

Me: excuse me. Are you poking me?
E: (offended) no! I am kissing you! ... With my finger.

I was at the daycare today talking to the director in her office, which has a door that opens to the lobby/front desk area. We heard a kid from the lobby yell at his/her parent "you're not getting any more snuggling from me!" The director was like "that's harsh" and I was like "yep."

Oh my goodness, the knock knock jokes are never ending around here. And my kids don't take turns, so I have two little voices saying, "Knock, knock" all day long. But they are too cute! Right now my kids are in a phase where every joke has the same punch line.

Inez made up her first song today: "Teddy bear, teddy bear, teddy bear, CAKE!"

She and I have a lot in common!

R loves his grandmother (mommo), so every time he sees someone with grey hair and glasses, he has to point and say "Mommo!". A bald old man in the paper? Mommo! Random people on the street? Mommo!

Overheard at a kitchen goods store..
I'm looking at utensils. Kid (maybe 5) is looking at utensils.. he lifts up a giant wooden ladle and turns to his mom and exclaims "Mom! This is a giant spanking spooN!"

I was horrified.

hehe. back from the good old days (my mother had a whole drawer full of spanking spoons). by which i mean thank lard we don't do THAT any more.

When I was a kid my friend's parents called them "memory spoons". As in, if you get a spanking maybe you'll remember to be good? My parents used a belt rather than a spoon. It felt normal when I was growing up, but now that I'm a parent I can't even begin to imagine hitting my child at all, and especially not with a spoon or a belt.

I know, right? My mom would regularly slap us. I can't even imagine slapping Leela without feeling sick to my stomach.

The phrase, "Get the spoon," still gives me creepy shivers.
