I have decided to quit my job. I'm calling my boss in the morning, telling her that between school and appointments I will be unable. I may also throw in a lie about my orthodontist/surgeon saying I would be having appointments on a weekly basis. Which is almost not a lie. I'm a little nervous, but mostly I'm relieved. Now I'm going to have time! A full weekend! This summer, I'm using financial aid excess and my taxes to pay for driving school- and I'll have time to do that!

A part of me feels bad because it's short notice. But, technically, I was supposed to be on leave until the 4th of February, NOT the 31st of January. Also, boss has not liked me very much from the start and was hesitant to hire me and left me waiting on the subject of leave until the last minute. I feel like I'll be letting my coworkers down in some way. But the call of having weekends and actual time to do homework is much louder.

The liquid bit of Isa's chickpea & rice soup off the blog tastes *exactly* as I remember tinned cream of chicken soup to taste. The latter isn't something I've eaten since I was 6 or so, but woah it reminds me exactly of it!

I need to make this!! I've had such a random craving for cream of chicken soup. I've made it a couple of times from a recipe I found online, but it's not quite right.

Managed to pack up the rest of our books, dye my hair, do the dishes, finish my laundry (plus sheets!), and wait around for the Internet person only to have it be a no-show (so I somehow need to call them and be like "wtfmate? do not charge me.").

I feel terrible leaving the cleaning for my roommate when he gets back, but I just feel so crummy. Buh.

I don't have a coat at work. I have nowhere to put personal items and don't want to drag a bulky coat to all my different classrooms all day along with laptop and other supplies. I don't need a coat going from garage to car and car to school. Kids, of course, can't all go to their lockers.

Good call GCZ! It sounds like this job has been nothing but stress for you, and more than you can handle with school. I have always gotten nervous every time I've had to tell an employer I would be leaving. I don't know why. And it's thoughtful of you to not want to screw over your coworkers, but I'm sure they will be able to hire someone to replace you and will be fine.

I just got home, at about 11, and there was a woman crawling into the alleyway next to my house. I asked her if she was OK and if she needed help, and she seemed really confused and said, "I'm cold." I wasn't sure what else to do, so I called the police, and they came and brought her to the hospital.

Rhizo, nerves are right! I'm good nervous right now. Work crush reminded me that we are all quite replaceable in the deli, and he's right. I actually wrote notes of what I'm going to say just in case I freeze up or something. But it's over the phone so no one can see me make awkward faces!

I'm going to have so much time... like, actual time to do my homework... and for cooking... and I can GROW MY NAILS! I've let them grow long since I've been home but for work I have to keep them short- between the hours of dish washing and use of the slicers, I always break nails. Now I can keep them!

Yikes, that's rough, but you did the right thing. I hope she is okay.

The other day I was driving as a passenger with my coworker and a man stumbled out onto a busy highway into oncoming traffic and he was throwing up. We tried to ask if he was okay and flag him down, but he wasn't coherent and eventually stumbled back to the curb, and I am still so worried about him and wish we would have done more.

I hope she's OK, too. It's about 5 degrees outside, and it looked like she was just wearing a fleece jacket, not a parka or anything.

I was confused by this but I'm guessing your school is a single building? Whenever someone mentions high school, I imagine mine which was basically multiple rows of classrooms which all required you to go outside to go to the next. In fact all schools in the city I grew up were like that but it was Southern California. I have no idea what schools are like here.

I woke up at 4am to my husband scrounging for a blanket and shivering. We put 4 blankets on him and a hat and he was still shivering. So I snuggled up to him and he stopped but as soon as I turned over, he started again. Then I went and got him some Tylenol and he stopped shivering and shortly discarded his hat and 2 of the blankies. Someone is sick.

I am having the worst day. The kind of bad day where you just want to hide in the bathroom and cry. Why does it seem like all of the bad/inconvenient/stupid/tedious things have to happen all at once? The past 2 months have been...really rough.

Schools out west seem to be like that Linanil. My school in Las Vegas was too. Here in the Eastman that's super uncommon. Though a few older schools in Richmond are like that.

Here, all the schools are giant buildings. My school does have three big buildings. They are attached, but students are allowed to use the sidewalks outside if they want. If I need to go to the main office, I have to drive because the school is way bigger than I can walk.

My high school was four different buildings so we always had to have our jackets with us. (In Massachusetts), which certainly made it better during fire drills for students!

Of course, when I was a freshman and had to go from the farthest end of one building to the farthest end of the farthest building away from that building in five minutes, that was interesting.

My schools were all in one giant building. When I was high school we were all in one big building with two towers on each end. The only thing connecting the two towers was the ground floor so if you had a class in one tower and your next class in the second tower, you'd have to run all the way downstairs, across the whole school and all the way back up the stairs (3 flights). Whoever designed the school was an idiot. The neighboring county has all elementary students, middle school students and high school students in the same building.

Yeah, all my schools were single level. It wasn't until college until I encountered multilevel buildings for classes.

I just closed a program on my computer and immediately the secret track on an album came on.

Cue confusion.

Heh yeah, going to school in SoCal doesn't really give you a good idea of what schools are like everywhere else in the country! my schools were all single level where each classroom door led to the outside. in middle school we didn't have a gym, just a field, so when it rained, we had to watch movies in the auditorium.

I can't even imagine a classroom with a door that led to the outside.

Live typing from overhearing conversation at the study table next to me:
"Do you ever feel like just not doing it today?" "YEAH it's called a school day... and the weekend."
"Why did this tiny book cost $170?" "It's consensley [sic] written!"

*also I totally identify with these people.
