After years of intermittent skin itching that's sometimes so bad that I can't sleep or that I'm scratching myself until I bleed, I'm going to try some elimination diets to find out the culprit. I picked gluten first because itchy skin seems to be a common symptom of gluten sensitivity, and it isn't the only possible symptom I have.

Soooo...I'm going grocery shopping today for some GF goodies. Does anyone know of a vegan and GF premade hamburger bun? Both Rudi's and Udi's have egg (which I'm sure you already know). I know I can get the Food for Life brown rice bread and their English muffins at Kroger. But I'm not seeing any buns? (Or bagels for that matter.)

I'm really not into baking them myself and don't want to do that. Just curious if there's one out there.

There's a brand that's European, called Schar. They might be what you're looking for. There is a bit of an aftertaste to me, but my boyfriend raves about them. We basically lived off of Schar breads in Iceland.

i'm a big fan of Sami's Bakery hamburger buns, but i have to order them online (they have gluten free* bagels and bread, too).

* while the ingredients they use for their flax bread & flax bagels (and hamburger buns) = gluten-free, they are all run on the same belt. me, i've never had a reaction (i have IBS), but for someone with Celiac Disease and the like, it might be a different story.

their vegan 'n gluten-free* yummies are ridiculously good though!

Ener-g makes vegan gluten-free hamburger buns. They're not in the refrigerated section like most gluten-free breads and they're...ok. Toasted, anyway.

I've seen the Schar packaging at Meijer, I just had never really looked at the products. I found a vegan GF sandwich bread at Walmart today but didn't buy it because I'd rather have something whole grain so I'll keep looking for the brown rice bread.

Not sure if I've seen much Ener-g other than egg replacer and packaged mixes but I will give it a look!

The Sami's Bakery ones look good -- are they $4.50 each though?

Schar is good stuff! They have some (small) rolls 6 to a package I think. They also have a multigrain bread option. Thank you Schar for not filling you gf products with eggs! Thank you!!!!

Bought some of the Schar buns today at Meijer and had one tonight with dinner -- very good! I put one in the fridge in a Ziploc bag and decided to try freezing the other two.

Another vote for the Sami's Bakery stuff. Their products are the best texture I've been able to find. I buy their bagels, bread and pizza crusts all the time.

Bought some super delicious ones at a local gluten and nut free bakery...her allergen-free stuff is vegan...very good and cheaper than buying the commercial ones. She does mail order too. Annie May's Sweet Cafe

I froze 3 of the 4 that I bought, and also froze 2 of the Schar ones. Hoping that works out.

So far my itching is greatly reduced and the weird "kinda" breakout I've had on my forehead since college is also almost totally gone.

Suspecting wheat allergy here I think. I do feel a lot better already after 5 full days GF.

Haven't tried their tapioca ones but the "Seattle Hamburger Buns" from Ener-G are good toasted. Bland on their own so use condiments but hold together well!

Freezing the other 2 Schar buns worked fine. I thawed them out yesterday/last night in the fridge and had one today (baked in the oven as directed on the package for 3 minutes) with a veggie burger. No difference from when I ate them fresh.
