So why was there no mention at todays flesh fest of an inauguration meal that both Clintons are vegans and would be consuming a plant based meal? Don't get me wrong-loved the whole thing, but what a missed opportunity!

That's what I've read-that she attributes her 20+ lb weight loss to her change in diet.

Hmmm...the closest I can find is a statement saying she eats vegan around Bill, and her 65th birthday cake was vegan and gf. http://www.ecorazzi.com/2012/11/05/hill ... egan-cake/But then, I didn't really scour the deep webs, ya know?

I don't think they owe it to us or anyone else to turn their choices into activism. I know that if I were at a dinner celebrating what is essentially my boss' promotion, I wouldn't be using it as an opportunity to draw everyone's attention to my meal. I would probably do the opposite ('Yeah, I'm eating vegetables but enough about me- how about that whole President thing? Kind of cool.').

^ This.
I'm glad there are high-profile vegans out there, but I don't believe it's their responsibility or obligation to make every public meal into a statement on their dietary choices. In fact, I think it would have been really inappropriate in this situation.

I was wondering if they had a special meal for Bill at the luncheon - I wasn't sure how strict he was about his vegan diet. I was more curious that anything. But I agree it probably wouldn't have been appropriate to bring it up.

For dessert, he had a fruit cup that was mostly unripened melon.
(Just making this up. But I like thinking about this. I would love to see how Bill Clinton reacts to vegan pet peeves.)

No it came with dairy ice-cream. Because everybody likes that.
Oh and I just saw online that they kindly put real butter on the grilled veg to make it taste good. They didn't give him any rice, pasta or potatoes since vegans don't eat them.

from what i understand he is not an ethical vegan (maybe Chelsea is?) but is more on the no-oil, plant strong regimen due to his multiple heart problems.
i thought i read somewhere he has a MAINLY plant based diet but sometimes has to cheat since he travels constantly to far flung places in the world. im guessing he cheats with fish but that is just a random thought.
im sure at the inauguration they would have been more than happy to accomodate him though i agree i really dont think it's an appropriate platform for talking about veganism.
i mean if there was an article specifically written about the food served there then it would have been interesting to have his meal showcased as well but otherwise the day had nothing to do with what BIll Clinton ate. i have no idea about Hillary and what she eats.

I love you PPK!
For what it's worth, I think if CNN can make a super huge deal about the what Michelle Obama is wearing, who designed it, who designed it for the last inauguration, and what the fashion world thinks of her new hair do (bangs!), it can also make a small mention about the gourmet vegan meal that was being served to Mr. Bill Clinton during the luncheon or at the galas.
I totally get that high profile vegans (even 98%-vegans-for-health reasons like Bill Clinton) do not have to be activists...the ripple (wave?) that they make in their very rarefied 1%-er pond is a wonderful thing to ponder. I just think that if the media is reporting on so many inconsequential facets of the inauguration, they can mention in passing that Bill Clinton eats vegan/plant-based.
I bet he handles the vegan pet peeves with grace and humor. But I bet he still gets peeved, like the rest of us.

I was skimming through some news site and saw an article about Michelle Obama's bangs and I got sooooo confused (and a little what the fizzle) because I thought she'd always had bangs? I guess I don't pay much attention to anything. And I think it's funny that a hairdo gets any air time at all.

First Lady fashion has been a "thing" since Martha. The First Lady hall at the Smithsonian has long been one of the biggest attractions at the American History museum. It is pretty cool to walk through and see the progression of the eras.

How awesome would it be if the Clintons are PPK lurkers? Hi Bill and Hillary!

True, but the comment would have been in keeping with Michelle's Healthy America program. And the color commentary I listened to on CNN talked about the tradition of the inaugural luncheon featuring foods from all over the nation. I don't think it would have been out of line to mention Bill's special vegan meal during that bit of chatter.

Obama's Chief of Staff keeps kosher. I'm not sure what he ate, either -- one of the Jewish papers tried to find out last week, but had no luck getting an answer.

So are you guys just assuming there was, in fact, a Bill's Special Vegan Meal?
