Hello lovely Dutch ppkers! I am staying in Den Haag for work for essentially the month of March at the Parkhotel. Any suggestions on where I should eat and what I should do? What are the vegan essentails at the grocery stores there? I have a kitchen in my room so I should be able to prepare some meals, but I am there for work so I can justify trying out any and all great vegan eats! Thanks ppk!

This thread has a bunch of suggestions for things to try while in NL viewtopic.php?f=14&t=21063There are a couple of cute veg. restaurants in Den Haag, and nearby in Rotterdam are a few more (like the vegan bakery!).

The Vegetarian Butcher is located in the Hague. Not all of their stuff is vegan, but a good chunk is! I haven't been in to their store (it's been a few years since I've been to DH), but I know the stuff they sell at other stores is marked either as "100 plantaardig" (which is vegan) or "100% vegetarisch" (which is not vegan). I don't know much about places to go out in DH, but wasn't there a PPK meet up that went there to some place that serves vegan fondue? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Ooh, checking out Happy Cow, it looks like there's a Cigkoftem there! I think some of their side dishes have meat but their main product - kofte - is vegan. And yummy!
Oh, and I second what lutin says about Rotterdam. Just braved the snow this week to go there (ostensibly for a Van Eyck exhibition) and ended up getting cupcakes (at Heavenly Cupcakes) and vegan Chinese food (at de Oude Plek). Yummm!

I think the place with the fondue is De Hagedis. Bun, veg_eric, pickledtreats also went to lunch that day, I don't know what the place was called. But I couldn't make it to Den Haag that early (catmergency) and they brought me something tasty!

I'm in! I'll be out of the country the first weekend of March but the other weekends should be fine. De Hagedis?

My vote's for a weekend and not March 10th. (Where are you going, bunbunbun?)
YES De Hagedis.

Aw sorry, I misread what you wrote :-( Thought you were proposing to meet on the 10th
Except for the 23rd, all of my weekend days in March are still free. I hope we can find a date that works for all of us!

Around the corner from the Vegetarian Butcher is a vegetarian Chinese grocery store, they sell lots of fake meat and the people that work there are very friendly and helpful. Also in Den Haag there is a hamburger joint called Burgerz, they sell the Dutch Weed Burger which is vegan: http://www.burgerz.nl/

Good call about the vegetarian Chinese store Marla, I had forgotten about that!
Maybe you'd like to come to the meetup too?

If you guys pick a date, I'll try to see if I can get that date off. This far in advance, it shouldn't be too much trouble!

Sounds like the following Saturdays are up for grabs (looks like the veg. places are closed Sundays): March 16, 30. Preferences?

March 30 doesn't work for me - I'll be headed to Assen then for work. The 16th is good though!

Also, I have a proposition for one of you - if someone could help me the first time in the grocery store as I do not speak a lick of Dutch and don't know the brands, I will bring them whatever they want in North American products that are likely hard/impossible to find there or very expensive. Any takers?
