Vegan pet friendly Vet's in SF?

Does anyone know of a vet in SF who supports a vegan diet for dogs?

I know Dr. Amie Knieper at the East Bay SPCA in Oakland is vegan. That's probably too far away for you though.

I think I'll give her a call and see if she can recommend someone a bit closer, or at least ask a few questions! Thanks. Just curious, I'm assuming the dog in your picture is yours. Do you feed them a vegan diet, and if so what? I just adopted a rescue and am interested in transitioning her to a vegan diet in the future.

That's Percy. I gave him Natural Balance Vegetarian for most of his life. Unfortunately, he has passed. He died of kidney failure. (My vet, who used to work at Park Animal Hospital but appears to no longer be there, thought it was congenital and not related to his diet. I have to admit though, there's a small part of me that's always going to wonder if diet played any role. I'm totally not trying to dissuade you- just feel I should be 100 percent honest here).

I would be interested in finding a vegan (or vegan-friendly) vet, too! We go to a great vet in Mountain View but I've never brought up our dog's diet (mostly vegan; he's always healthy at visits so it's never come up) so I don't know if we would get any grief. I don't know how a dog would do on a vegan diet if they have health issues already, but our dog is very healthy (according to vet) and he's been vegan 5 years.

We also use Natural Balance kibble and rotate between Avoderm or Nature's Recipe vegetarian wet food (as a treat).

We are at Mission Pet Hospital right now, which is where our rescue agency sent us for an initial free visit. Emma is wonderful, she's a part of the family now! She's also a green bean lover!

Yay! That's awesome to hear!

I wish my pup liked green beans. The only veggies he likes are green peas and corn!
