My mother has stated that she is having some memory issues, so much so she is keeping a notebook with her to help her remember. This isn't a bad idea but I'm worried. I told her to let her doctor know and I'm sure she will.
I'd like to tell her to do things to help keep her brain active but I'm not sure what. -She doesn't like to read -Doesn't care much for puzzles -Doesn't like crossword
She likes Farmville though.
Any ideas, especially for aging parents? She is set to retire this year and I think things that would keep her mind active would be beneficial.

I'll have to talk to my husband, I plan to buy an upgrade iPad for myself this year and give my husband mine. I may give my mom mine instead or buy her a new one. I've offered before but her response was basically 'if I can't play Farmville, what is the point?' She did mention her friend got an iPad mini though and she was jealous.

Maybe listening to talk radio? I know that helps me feel more mentally alert after my morning commutes.

Is there a kind of class she'd enjoy? Painting, quilting, gardening, dancing, cards? Learning something new (which we tend to stop doing as we get older and set into patterns) really helps with brain health.
You might also suggest she take b12 since it's recommended for everyone over 50.

I'm not sure she'd be interested in a class, she did get an AA or AS 10 years ago or so and she enjoyed that. I'll try to see if she would like something though. I also didn't even think about B12, but I'll recommend it to her.

B12 and a DHA supplement (heck, a multivitamin in general if she doesn't take one) would probably be good ideas. Buy her a Lumosity membership as a gift? I played a bunch of their trial games on my mom's iphone; they were a lot of fun, and I'm not much of a fan of puzzle type challenges. Definitely (community) college courses, whether or not she'd like to pursue a degree. Imagine how much fun it'd be to audit a liberal arts class--political science, anthropology, sociology, etc.! There are also lots of free college courses (often offered through prestigious universities) online.
