Yeah, I guess that's what I was thinking. I've never had fried ice cream (vegan of non), but I was just thinking about donuts and ice cream mixed together, and it came to mind.

Haha, I've had it before. It was just vanilla ice cream covered in toasted coconut i think. It looked like it had a fried crispy shell though. I was a kid, but I remember it being good.

Ooooh, see, I always pictured it as being like a doughnut. The shell makes more sense.

Ok, all this donut talk, I just decided I will make raised fried donuts for chanukkah this year...even if I just kept them simple with cinnamon sugar, i think that would be most excellent. Mmm, donuts and latkes!
Bad idea reading the PPK board when you are hungry!
Also, on the subject of fried food...New Harmony does fried cheesecake!!! I've only had it once, when they were still serving Lotus Cake's cheesecake, but holy lard, that was delicious. I can't imagine it done on a slice of Vegantreats!!

Nope, I just looked it up on Wikipedia. They shut down in the US after a Hepatitis A outbreak. But they still have a food line sold in grocery stores and they still have restaurants in Europe.
Looks like all of the recipes for fried ice cream have a corn flake crust. I could have sworn it was coconut.

Coconut does sound better than corn flakes!
The one time I was in the presence of fried ice cream (my friend ordered it), she was putting honey on it and I looked at the honey bottle and it had flies in it. She stopped eating her fried ice cream. That, folks, is my limited experience with fried ice cream.

Coconut sounds amazing though. Mine had corn flake crust too - we had it in my Spanish class middle school. I've been wanting to recreate this in vegan form for YEARS!

There's a new vegan baker in town called Nick's! He makes these killer bakery-style muffins with a crumbly streusel topping, fruit-filled "congo bars," loaf cakes, and more. Grindcore House just started carrying some of his stuff. Banana-walnut muffin and chocolate coconut walnut congo bar/blondie? F'ing amazing.

yeah, they just opened up that store front maybe 2 months ago. Been riding by it for a while now and finally stopped in this morning when they were just opening.
I looked at the challah that was in the store this morning and they all had the egg wash but you can order it without the egg wash.

Ever since we got our own forum I feel like we've stopped the usual chatter in this thread! Pick it up, folks, I feel lonely in here!
So, how was everyone's Thanksgiving? I had a great meal with supercarrot and choirqueer.
