Thanks! He liked it too. I wasn't sure if he would, he's never worn a scarf before in his life, but he asked if I'd make one for him, so...tada! The pattern is: http://www.eatingoutloud.com/2010/11/ve ... nisex.html It's really just (sc, ch1) over and over again, with every sc in the ch1 below it.

Here's the link to a picture of a baby blanket I made for a family friend. It's green, blue, and white. The pattern is quite simple.

That is beautiful! What kind of yarn did you use? What pattern?

I made this cosy for my french press a few weeks ago during an episode of Bones. Now my coffee stays warm longer!

This past week I've been working furiously on a granny square blanket I started years ago to get rid of old yarn. It's almost finished, but I ran out of the yarn I was using for the border.

My mom came up with the pattern. Start with chaining your total length. You need 16 crotchets for each square.
Row 1: chain 2, dc 15, chain 1, skip 1 stitch (this makes the hole) and repeat to the end of the row.
Row 2: chain 2, dc for a total of 6, chain 3, skip 3 dc on row below and dc 6 to get to end of square. Chain 1 to make hole, and repeat square to end of row.
Row 3: chain 2, dc to a total of 4, chain 3, sc in 2nd chain of last row, chain 3, dc into 4th last dc in row, complete square with 3 more dc, chain 1 to make hole, and repeat the square to the end of row.
Row 4: same as Row 2. This will make the top petal of the flower.
Row 5: same as Row 1. This will complete the square.
Row 6: this row is dc 1, chain 1, which will make the squares separating the squares.
Repeat Rows 1-6 for each square you make. On your last square, skip row 6.
Note: Make sure all your holes line up horizontally and vertically, especially where the squares meet in the corners.
Add a nice border around the outside when you finish.

I think I used Snuggly Wuggly wool. It was a big ball (800+m). I bought it at Michaels. They have lots of different wool choices there.

I am trying to teach myself the double crochet stitch and it's driving me crazy. I know eventually I'll get it, but for now it's frustrating and madness.

I keep watching videos, idji, but my brain is not computing so far. Learning to chain was a breeze, this not so much. I just need to keep practicing and eventually I'll get it.

yeah you'll get it! maybe an illustration with description would be easier to get? there are some things that i just can't get and then all of a sudden it clicks. once you can double crochet you'll be able to do so much cool stuff like lacy stuff and granny squares.

Yeah, I had a much easier time learning from pictures that stood still. It's sometimes hard to see what's happening in a video.

I learned best from youtube videos, but I also found the Stitch and bisque Happy Hooker book very helpful for explaining stitches. It gets easier, I promise!

I'm currently working on this hat: http://www.caron.com/vickiehowell/patte ... ungle.html . I'm officially a pro at the puff stitch! :D

Here's a link to my most recent project. It's another baby blanket. First I chained the length I wanted. It's a repeated pattern of sc one row, then ch 1, sc 1 (you are making little holes) for 2 rows. It is time consuming, but the end result is impressive.

That's lovely! But gosh that must have taken a while! How long did you spend on it? Who's the lucky baby?

Thank you for your wonderful comments! It took a long time. I worked on it for 3-4 hours a night, for about 2 weeks. The lucky baby is the son of one of my dad's friends' children, that he's had since childhood. Three of his friends' children are having babies in the coming months (all are boys). I made 2 blankets (link to pic of other one is in my previous posts), and my mom made 1. We're all done now, on to making things for an upcoming craft sale!

That's wonderful!

I just finished and mailed a baby blanket last week, but I forgot to take a picture of it before I mailed it off, so I'm hoping the parents will take a picture for me!

that is a really nice blanket! I love the little holes.

I'm very new to crochet and haven't managed to venture past little dish cloths so far. Have to admit I'm a bit intimidated with the bigger stuff. :-\

Do any of you use Ravelry to find crochet patterns? I'd be totally lost without it these days.

Although I did originally learn to crochet from some 1970s book I picked up in a charity shop!

I use both Ravelry, Pinterest and Craftsy to find crochet patterns... mostly Pinterest.

I mostly get patterns from Lion Brand, Red Heart, and free crochet pattern central.

My most recent project:

I've been feeling uninspired on the crochet front lately. So much beautiful yarn in my craft closet, no motivation to make anything. Anyone crocheting something awesome right now?
