Happy one year kdub!
I'm dedicated to pumping for M for the rest of this semester (end of May). After that, I don't know. I'm hoping to have a FT internship over the summer, and FT just seems like... So much pumping.

Yay kdub! We've hit the one year mark too! And even after a year, we still managed to have something new happen while nursing yesterday! Henry unlatched to look around (not new!), quickly pinched my boob (also not new!) and made milk squirt a good five feet! I've definitely squeezed some out in the shower, but this was the first time he'd ever done it. It was hilarious. I quit pumping a few weeks ago, and I do not miss it, but I also have the chance to pop down the hallway and nurse him on one of my breaks, so we're still nursing at least three times a day during the week which I'm pretty happy about.

How exciting for one year marks. Technically we made it last week, but I am holding off the celebration until his due date on the 21st.
As I was nursing Carlos tonight, he started signing the milk sign. He did it over and over and we were signing back and forth to each other. I am not sure if he was making the connection to the sign and nursing, but it was super exciting and so cool! It's his first sign!

Aww Kimba, so sweet. About the only sign M uses frequently is "more" and he does it the whole time he nurses when he's in a good mood.
Starting this week, we're only sending him with 3 bottles (12 oz) of milk to school along with his solids. This is ridiculous but I feel sort of sad about it. Like it's the beginning of the end.
On the other hand, yesterday was a home day and he refused all solids and wanted to nurse every hour. Maybe I'm not that sad.

My breastfeeding badass story of the day-- after being snowed in at the hospital for 36 hours, we were running out of frozen milk at home. This morning I finally said fork it, covered myself in waterproof OR scrubs, and hiked three miles home in the blizzard so that I could breastfeed my baby!

Excellent story Moo - you can use that one on Scarlett later on. Something like not only did I labor for 24 hours with you at home but I also walked 3 miles in a blizzard to feed you!
In other tales - I pumped my all time record most in one sitting this morning - 16 oz. That is what happens when the baby miraculously sleeps from 9pm to 9am!!!

I am pretty sure you should win some kind of award for that. (I hardly ever pumped, but my record was 9oz after the first time Beetroot slept 5 hours straight -- I had to wake up and pump because I was too sore and gigantically engorged to sleep. But you blew my record away!!!)

I had one time where I did 23 oz and then stopped. Having oversupply with a lc who thinks you have undersupply and a baby who wouldn't nurse.....those were weird days. J never ever thought I'd stop thinking about boobs like 20 hours a day.

That is mindblowing, refinnej! I did haul home a full gallon of milk from my 36 hour shift, but of course that was from many pumping sessions.

23 oz is pretty amazing! With my own 16 oz I was wondering where all the milk was coming from - I am not particularly well-bosomed ;)

I went from a 36A to a 40C while breastfeeding

mooo that is such a badass story! I know they say breast size has nothing to do with milk and mine didn't really change size much ever, even during engorgement. And booooo I still have never ever pumped more than 4oz total in a sitting or 10oz in an entire day. But I don't think I'll stop pumping when S turns one because on the 2 occasions where I wasn't able to pump during a work day, when I went home and nursed her she Exorcist-stylee vomited all over the place afterwards. I can definitely cut back from 3 pumping sessions though, although I kinda don't mind doing it - it's my PPKing time at work haha. I have a separate small dimly lit office (I looove the dark) where I do the bookkeeping and that's where I pump too, my boss comes by and holds conversations on his way to the printer sometimes but has learned not to call me over to him if he hears the pump. Sometimes the mailman or UPS person will burst in the front door of the outer office but they can't see me, and I think they too have learned the sound of the pump and realize I'm not going to come out and greet them. It's actually a very comfy casual thing, which I'm grateful for.

i just had a revelation ... PUMPING! it can be good! i bought a manual pump last week and i love it.
i pumped with tzipi in the beginning because she was preterm and didn't nurse for a good 2-3 weeks. that pumping sucked donkey balls because i was so stressed, she was in the hospital, or it was like 2am and i would be sitting there with my poor battered nipples trying to get her to latch, then pumping, then going back to bed, then doing it all over 2 hours later. once she start nursing exclusively, i returned that pump and never pumped again... but that also meant i never went out for longer than 2-3 hours without her until she was past a year old.
this time, lydia nursed so well from the beginning that i never needed to futz around with pumping or bottles, and i get to be home with her until this summer, so no need to think about daycare just yet. but i realized that i'm just not willing to be tied to her nursing schedule for the next however many months. i have an older kid that i'd like to take out once in a while, and a social life that i'm not willing to give up.
so i pump one side while nursing her on the other, and get a good 5 oz every time. i've only done it a couple times so far (because we are all sick with the plague and not going anywhere anyway), but she's taken the bottle well, and mr. bird was able to feed her while i went out with tzipi over the weekend.
freedom! this is awesome. the martyrdom of AP parenting shall not afflict me this time! i can't believe i was so stuck on the whole breast ONLY last time... now i can leave the girls with my mom or my mil and go on a date! or shopping! the possibilities are endless.
of course, it's only awesome because i DON'T have to pump every few hours while i'm at work or make up the shortfall with formula... pumping like this is pretty liberating though. even if i'm not gone for long enough for her to need to be fed, just knowing that there's a bottle of milk in the fridge for her makes my outings so much more enjoyable.

I wish I could do that, lb. Elijah will NOT for the life of me take any bottles...
