Has anyone been to any of these? The next one is on 6th Feb and I'm tempted to go, as my cousin lives in Central London and keeps saying I should come and stay with her, and I need something to look forward to in this cold weather.

I'm hit-and-miss when it comes to socialising with people I don't know very well (or at all!). If I'm in the right mood it's fine or great, but I just wanted to get an idea from anyone who has been to this about how many people normally turn up and how friendly (or not!) it is? I'm going to ask my cousin if she wants to come but she's a freelancer and seems pretty busy at the moment, so I think she's just offering a bed rather than to go out socialising with me.

I'm often down in London on weekdays so went a few times in 2011. There were quite a few people - 30 maybe? I believe that Kip still goes so she can probably give you a more upto date figure.

I stopped going because it wasn't possible to lug food around London all day - there's only so many times you can turn up with bottles of wine from M&S! :)

Your wine contributions are a hit! Not enough people bring drinks.

That would be me. I frequently attend this event and there's quite a selection of different types of people with varied interests. I find it friendly and enjoyable, but I also enjoy the awkwardness of meeting new people.

How much food do people bring? I'm thinking almond-cream-cheese-type-thing and homemade crackers, will probably serve about 15 people. Will that do or should I bring something else as well?

It really varies. Sometimes I bring three dishes, sometimes one, and they vary in size. I think what you're proposing sounds okay. Most people are reasonable and take a small portion of each dish so that everyone can sample everything, and I don't think anyone has ever brought something that would actually feed the 60 people who might show up! It's also worth pointing out that drinks are often limited, so if you want something other than water you should bring it yourself (and FYI alcohol is okay if you want wine or something).

The dip accidentaly got too much rosemary in it and I wasn't sure what flavour to make the crackers so I ended up taking florentines, truffles and 4 bottles of ginger beer! Everything went apart from one lonely truffle at the end of the night.

I met some nice/interesting people too. I wouldn't take such heavy stuff again though, at least not all the way from Leicester.
