I was at a first aid training today at work and a colleague reserved a spot at our gym in the class and in an act of "I've eaten too much pasta this week and haven't been to the gym" impulsion, I told her to add me to the list, too.
Should I be scared? The classes are an hour long!

Just take it easy and use the light weights.
Two weeks ago I walked into the wrong class at the gym which turned out to be body pump. I felt that in my thighs and buttocks for two days.

Don't be scared. As Veg_Eric said, use the light weights because you'll probably do enough reps to make you conscious of some muscle groups for a couple of days afterwards. The hour should pass pretty quickly. Have fun!

Y'all, I can't do a push-up. Not even on my knees. I made a promise to my 9th/10th grade mentor students that I WILL be able to do at least one proper push up by June 6th and they are haunting me with reminders every week. I really need this class, haha.

Yes, use the light weights, don't feel like you have to do every rep when you're starting out (take breaks if you need them), and have fun! I did the class from 3 months - 8 months pregnant and didn't die, so don't worry! You'll be fine.

Use 5 lb and 2.5 lb weights only. I started with a warmup bar of 5 lb on each side and use that for almost everything. I added 2.5 for legs and back and took it off for everything else. I use 2.5 for shoulders. (Still...my shoulders aren't getting better). I still can't do a proper form pushup but I can almost do 5 crappy ones on my knees. I go to Body Pump 2 - 3 times a week. I'm using 10 lb plates now!! Excited!
I friggin love the class.

I did it! Though my arms are jelly now. I actually trembled when trying to press the buttons on the microwave, haha. I tried to do all the reps, but I didn't do the jumping at the end because of my hip problems lately.
It was an awesome workout, though. I'll definitely be going back! Have you guys done any of the variations of body pump? My gym has a few others.

I also do Body Combat. I want to try Body Attack, but it's offered too far away. I actually start a challenge group for Combat tomorrow!

I love Pump so I'm glad you liked it too! I remember when I did my first class, the instructor only let me use the smallest weights (half a kilo, or a bit over a pound each) and I felt super silly when everyone else had these huge-looking weights, but I was a mess the next day! Having to walk up two flights of stairs felt like the most difficult thing anyone has ever had to do.
CXWORX is the only other one I do regularly. I did Combat once and it was pretty fun, but they only have it on twice per week at my gym and both times are no good for me (one is in the middle of the day, and the other clashes with one of my yoga classes) so I haven't been back. My gym is introducing Grit next month though, which I'm pretty excited to try out.

I'm going again tomorrow. What is grit about? I saw that on our schedule - is that another Les Mills thing?

Yep, Grit is a half-hour Les Mills thing that's meant to be super high-intensity interval stuff. I think it's also done in smaller groups. My Pump instructor today had to use way smaller weights than she usually does because she did Grit training on the weekend and was so sore. Ominous!
