I have way too many shoes really and have them stored all over the house which sucks. I need some cool/pretty ideas how to store them. How do YOU do it?? Am not too fond of getting a boring old shoe rack...

I got two IKEA Ivan cupboards, and screwed them next to each other. It's just shelves, but they are the right depth for shoes. No pics though, maybe later.

We have one shoe rack in a closet by the door, but it's filled with my boyfriend's giant shoes. So I just toss mine around the apartment. Not helpful, I know.

That sounds a lot like my house. The ones that aren't fighting to survive on the hallway shoe rack are dumped into this big white bin. Photogenic!

I'd take a pic, but...i dont think you really want to see the door hanging shoe holder filled with shoes surrounded by a giant pile of shoes on the floor. also, let's not forget under the couch where i kick my shoes off when i come home.

Ha! When I lived alone in my townhome, I had my coat closet converted to a shoe closet which basically meant shelves were installed and I had the shoes in boxes neatly on the shelves. Now though, it isn't pretty, it is just a shoe rack at the bottom of our coat closet and it isn't always so neat.

My shoes are basically piled in a heap in the corner of my bedroom: I desperately need good storage ideas so will be watching this thread with interest!

I'm trying to imagine owning multiple pairs of shoes. Ah well. I make up for it in nail polish, I suppose.

It's a terrible system of sad old plastic crates in my tiny 1947 bedroom closet, and some that are worn less often stored in boxes on the shelf above. I don't think people in 1947 had many shoes. Or much of anything, for that matter, judging by the closets around here!

Oh god. I have a hanging shoe thing on the inside of my closet door, and then they are also all over the bottom of my closet, except they don't all fit in there so they are also shoved under my bed and dresser and usually the ones I wear on a regular basis are in a pile next to my dresser.
I'm pretty sure no one wants to see pictures.

bottom cabinet of my wardrobe is for shoes, and we also have TWO crates next to the front door to catch shoes. for a family of people who wear the same damn pair of shoes every day, we somehow have a shitload of shoes.

A pile in a closet, a pile downstairs where I've kicked them off after coming home, a pile in the bathroom with ones I've taken off later or when I've been changing outfits. It's a problem.

jerusha wrote: I really like this idea... but for regular shoes without heels, the toe area really gets crimped, no? Regular shoes don't have to be wedged in there as much as you might think. It's a little hard to explain why, but I'll give it a shot. Look at the pair of brown dress shoes in the upper left corner of the pallet in the third picture. Gravity is pulling the shoes down, but the wood that's in contact with the soles of the shoes acts as a pivot point so the heels are pulled down while the toes are forced upward into the wood above. It's this force that keeps the shoes from falling, not wedging them in the gap. So the force on the toe area is only equal to the weight of the shoe. To prevent scuffing, I might add some felt or other cushioning to the parts of the pallet that are in contact with the tops of the shoes if you have shiny dress shoes or something.

I had a carpenter make some sloped shelves with a stop on the end to stop shoes sliding off. It is the exact right size for my shoes (wouldn't fit my o/h's shoes) and I painted them the same vivid colour as the walls to blend in. At the time all my shoes fitted on them but now I have an overflow of seldom worn ones in a plastic box under the bed and there was no provision for boots (I didn't have boots then, now I have loads!) so they are cluttering up the hall by the front door.

I used to 'store' loads of things in the back footwells of my car. When the car got stolen I had no idea what I'd lost until I couldn't find said item and realised it had been in the car!

I know. I have no idea what is back there. There are tons of cloth bags full of stuff. Really really random stuff. From ballet shoes to potato chips to bills I've failed to open to kitty litter I've failed to drag into the house. Flip-flops, badminton rackets, towels, chocolate bars, and even an old (but broken) lap-top that I keep meaning to recycle. My car probably looks awesome to break into but anyone who isn't a vegan who likes junk food and has a kitty will be sorely disappointed.

Yeah my car got broken into once cos I think it looked full of good things. They left a box of office stationary I was transporting for work but took my overnight bag for sleeping it at work (a load of travel sized toiletries, pjs etc) which gave me a chuckle, bet they were disappointed with that! I was very upset that they also took a box of about 10 bracelets my friend had just mended/resoldered for me, they were only cheap metal ones I'd picked up at jumble sales and charity shops but I loved them and had been so pleased to get them back. Aside from those, which I couldn't replace even if I'd had the money as they were all old/vintage, the only real pain was paying for the broken window.
At the moment there is a lot of damp mouldy stuff I can't bear to even look at in the back of my car (my soft top is leaking) and the whole car is full of mould. Not looking forward to driving it to the garage to get it sorted either as the one hour trip in it will make me very wheezy but I need to get my head out of the sand and get it sorted before it is engulfed in black fur!
