i know this has been said 1000 times, but i had a personal incident this morning. i was with a pregnant friend and another woman (a mother) was offering some advice about rearing children and one of those things was, "try not to go too far to one extreme or another. i went vegetarian once and i ended up with a B12 deficiency!"

you know, that should be one of the under-the-screen-name-tag-things if it isn't already. like, instead of, "bathes in braggs," it could be, "has b12 deficiency."

Well you don't have to worry about that because you get b12 enemas!

I shall be taking that for a signature, thank you!

Daisychain, I wonder if it were possible to make a pancake oreo. Like two chocolate pancakes with some kind of whipped cream/sugar center in the middle drowning in maple syrup? I'm going off to google...

I'm pretty sure there's a recipe in Vegan Sandwiches for Oreo waffles (or chocolate waffles with cream sandwiched between them). They're delicious. Also, I totally had Oreos for lunch today.

Ooooh I had heard about that recipe before. I'm still waiting on vegan oreos to arrive here. It would make PMS worthwhile if I could have a box.

I think all the media that the “plant powered” diets are getting means a bit of confusion for people who are unfamiliar with veganism and they think that veganism=no oil, no processed foods, nothing that isn’t a whole food. Oh, yes. I had a co-worker who asked me if I could eat beans. BEANS! Some people act surprised that I eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or bagels, or pasta.

One of my major pet peeves is when people act grossed out when I try to explain tempeh or Daiya to them, then I see them eating a McRib or McNuggets or McFish Bites (or whatever they're called) at lunch. Blech!

I think some people wish to believe vegans can't eat ANYTHING. That way their conscience can sleep on.

Vegan pet peeve: I haven't been able to locate vegan oreos yet. C'mon Ireland.... eat up all the nasty dairy containing oreos so I can get blissed out with a pack of oreos and a cup of tea.

My entirely irrational peeve: people getting excited about Oreos being vegan. They are not delicious, they are merely pleasant; I think they're a bit bland but I wouldn't shun one if it were given to me. THERE, I'VE SAID IT.

The whole dipping them in milk thing is weird, too.

I have never, ever understood the dipping cookies in milk thing. It just grosses me out! They get all soggie and then bits will fall into the milk and then you'll have chunky, gritty milk to drink.

Dipping gingernuts in orange juice, however, tastes awesome.

I enjoy oreos much more as a vegan than I did as an omni... maybe because of our limited store-bought cookie options?

oooh! that sounds amazing. Those are the best tea dipping cookie biscuit I've ever experienced. I don't think there's an american cookie that can be dipped in tea even half as nicely.

I actually really, really dislike Oreos. I never understood the attraction.

I dont really care for oreos either. They're kind of like bitter or something and the filling is to sugary sweet. I did used to like the opposite ones though. .. The vanilla cookies with chocolate filling.

I feel like the cookie part tastes like... burnt chocolate? Or something. Especially paired with the uber sweet filling. No thankies!

I never cared for oreos myself, I don't hate them but I wouldn't buy them.

See, I much prefer fudgey-os or whatever they're called. The super cheap ones we put out at the office look appear to be vegan, and when we have them it's like death seeing them on the plate and not eating any (or not eating more than one)

The only cookies I buy are the cheap wafer cookies that come in chocolate and vanilla and strawberry.

Ummmm... I don't know how I've lived without having this bit of information before.

Anyway, I like Oreos, though that may be a bit of nostalgic holdover from childhood. My folks wouldn't let me have them so I would sneak over to my neighbor's house to eat them. Sweet, illicit Oreos.
