Here's the picture of her from the shelter website. I'll be taking her home either Tuesday or Wednesday. http://www.centrecountypaws.org/dogs/Dogs2.cfm?ID=2715I'm pretty sure that I'm going to keep the name Buffy, unless I come up with some other really awesome name between now and Wednesday.

I can bring her home tomorrow night! And I went to Petco last night and bought over $200 worth of stuff. (Some of it was stuff that a dog needs, like food and bowls and a car seat and a leash and toys and some treats. Some was stuff that I just couldn't resist, like a little yellow raincoat. I'm justifying that one on the basis that it does rain a lot here, and she's got poodle-ish fur that would be a pain to have to dry all the time. And it's just adorable. Also a "Housebreaking for Dummies" book, because I've never housebroken a dog before, and all the different dog books seem to have slightly different strategies for how to do it, so I figured a book that had a specific plan, plus a lot of troubleshooting tips, would be good. I also got a playpen to put her in while I'm at work -- something bigger than a crate, because I don't really like the idea of leaving her in the crate for the whole time that I'm at work, but still enclosed and with a waterproof floor, so that I know that she and the house are safe.)

I also bought one bag of the food she's been eating at the shelter, and one bag of vegan food -- I figure I'll start her on the same food she's been eating, and when that bag is mostly used up, I can try transitioning her to the vegan food. If she doesn't like it, or it doesn't agree with her or something, I'll go back to the non-vegan stuff.

Don't start the food transition towards the end of the first bag, start it much sooner than that so you can do a very slow transition in case she's got a sensitive tummy.
Yay for yellow rain coat! I'm such a sucker for dog clothes :)

The dog I had was a foster placement, to see how it would go before making the adoption official, and it's not going well. I know that the shelter (which is no-kill) can find her a much better home, so I'm bringing her back.

Aww I'm sorry, that sucks. I really like that the shelter does foster-to-adopt, it's great in situations exactly like this.

Yes, ditto what they said. I just know you'll find the right dog eventually!
