I'm sure Portland must have good Chinese food, but in the sea of everything else, I haven't really seen any. Bonus points for places that deliver vegan mu shu/spots in North Portland.

It ain't in Portland. :( I have given up on Chinese food here. I will be watching this thread to see if someone else has any recommendations.

Green Wok if you like fake meaty. Sesame chicken is great! And I've had great tangy eggplant there. I like the vegetable fried rice. But it's really variable and greasy and far away from lots of stuff. I do not recommend the spring rolls, fried zucchini, hot and sour soup, or tofu hush puppies.

There's not much in the way of Chinese delivery (I know of none, anyway). Thai Thai II on Stark delivers if you want Thai instead of Chinese. And live close enough, I guess.

I super liked the crispy eggplant and garlic tofu at Fujin until I found a worm in my rice there. : ( I just can't return and it's been a few years now.
Otherwise, I enjoy Green Wok - I dig the buffet and think its the most flavorful of our PDX/veg/Chinese offerings, Loving Hut (you know, for a loving hut), Departure's offerings and keep meaning to try Lucky Star....and, uh....PF Changs when I travel.

Vegetarian House is always a gut bomb for me; I haven't been in years. I forgot about Fujin; they are so nice there, shame about the worm...

Sweet Lemon (outer NW) doesn't have as extensive of a menu as the others, but it is healthier and the owners are super nice. My husband's favorite is Vegetarian House, and I like it too. Green Wok started out with the same menus as VH - but has since branched out. I like their buffet, but I've found overall the quality of their food isn't consistent - sometimes very, very greasy. We also go to Loving Hut, but mainly because the owner there tries so hard, but I guess it's our least favorite of the vegan Chinese restaurants.

Clearly you must visit Vancouver/Seattle/Victoria more frequently. :)

That is the plan! Last time I was in Vancouver, my brother took me to the most amazing Chinese noodle place. Holy crepe. I need to go back. Now I want noodles really bad.
Thanks for the responses, guys! I will check out Vegetarian House for sure, since it's not too far from where my boyfriend works. If I'm ever in SW, I'll try Green Wok as well.

Vegetarian House reminds me of really crappy greasy Chinese take-out my grandparents used to get in Michigan. Nostalgic but I wouldn't call it good. I like Fujin though the worm story definitely make me shudder.

Our staples there are the Chicken Salad, Pine Nut Fried Rice and the Beef w/ Broccoli. Do people like Van Hanh (Vietnamese)? I like their food except when I goof and get something too spicy. Never trust when they say it isn't hot!

As a Portland Native and transplant to the NE I can say with certainty that Portland is lacking in good Chinese food. The two places I think are the best are Bay Leaf on SE Division and Sweet Lemon on Bethany in Portland/Beaverton area.
I think Vegetarian house and Green Wok are icky. Greasy and just lacking in good taste.

I think Green Wok and Vegetarian House offer the most what is technically "Chinese food" (at least, Americanized, sugar coated, stir-fried and whatnot), and therefore (especially based on feedback of this thread and my own opinion) Chinese food in Portland is lacking. I went to Green Wok last week for the first time in ages for the buffet and it was not a very pleasant meal.
I have had some really nice meals at Van Hanh and very off-putting ones (to note: they are Vietnamese cuisine). Sweet Lemon seems to be mostly Vietnamese? I've only been once and found it very boring but I'd definitely try it again since I've heard such nice things and think it's a nice option for that area. I am a big Bay Leaf fan (especially the lunch specials), though I know people seem to disagree and overlook them a lot, it seems.
I'm going to stem off of our Asian cuisine talks and say I'm much more excited about trying new ramen and pho chays lately...
I do wish we had dim sum...

Has anyone tried vegan Chinese hot pot options in Portland?

I had Green Wok for the first time last week (takeaway, non-buffet), and it's probably the best Chinese food I've had around here. wasn't amazing or anything, but it wasn't the generic, oily, gross Chinese I've otherwise come to expect.. I'd go again.

I will never go to Green Wok or Vegetarian House again. I feel the same way Jdfunks feels. I have mostly given up on Chinese food here.

I have not yet been, but have heard (from vegan Yelp reviewers) that this place: http://www.shandongportland.com can veganize many things on their menu. Anyone tried it?
