Beats me! I always read to get clothes in the same size you were before you got pregnant. Shirts aren't a problem for me, but even the small-sized maternity jeans here are falling off me. I have to either walk around with the fly of my baggy non-maternity jeans hanging open or wear a bella band over the one pair of maternity jeans that won't totally fall down when I walk. I had the same problem with my last pregnancy, so I thought I'd size down with jeans this time...no luck -- still too big. what the fizzle?!
(BTW, I got my jeans on ebay and at charity shops/NCT sales, so I couldn't try them on first.)

HA HA HA! Maybe YOUR butt and legs don't get bigger, but mine sure do!!! ;p Not only do I have to size up my underwear 2 sizes while pregnant, but after my first pregnancy, I couldn't even get my pre-preg jeans (not even my loose-fitting ones) above my knees (not until maybe 8 weeks post-partum). It's not like I put on a ton of weight, I was 97 pounds when I got knocked up with Beetroot and was 38 pounds heavier before I popped.

I have not bought maternity pants yet but I have been leaving my pants unbuttoned at home. My one pair of maternity pants from my last pregnancy are too small because my hips got wider by third trimester. I really don't want to buy pants that I'll only wear for three months and will most likely be uncomfortable soon anyway so I'll be doing what I did last time, leggings and yoga pants! But yeah, maternity sizing makes about as much sense as regular clothes.

Raygold said I have "biscuity boobies" (biscuit=dry cookie here in the UK). He was inspecting my nipple (still fascinated by the boob, even though he says he doesn't ever want 'boobie' again) and I guess I've been leaking a little colostrum and it's dried or something because they did look a little crumby. ;p

yeah the sizing thing is just weird. they didnt have number sizing either. it was S, M, L, or XL. and then to really throw me off there was large petite and x large petite which at that point i just started screaming at my husband "WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!?!? WHY IS THIS SO HARD?!?!?AHHHHH""
i think i finally decided the "petite" sizes were referencing height. geesh.

im just baffled and now i hope i dont get much bigger because apparently i will have to wear a moomoo even though people keep telling me how small i am.
but where do you go from XL?!!? (i did not see XXL)

i DESPISED spending money on maternity clothes. i spent $150 and $100 of it was from a gift card my MIL sent me when i first got pregnant. i got 2 shirts, 2 pairs of pants, and a STOOPID dress for my STOOPID shower.

buying the dress pretty much killed me cause it was $40 out of my own pocket and i will probably wear it once. AHHHHHHH!!!!! if the weather warms up i might be able to wear it to work a few times before i leave but i doubt it.

perhaps i will give birth in it to get my monies worth!

TCC i dont know what to tell you about biscuity boobies but it made me laugh!

Do you have to dress up for baby showers? I have no idea, I've never been to one. All I know is that they have a gift registry and weird games are involved.

I got all my maternity clothes either on super clearance (babystyle.com was going out of business and I got some shiitake (mostly tops, but 3 skirts, too) from the US really cheap by mailorder -- like $60 shirts for $6-$12 back when the pound was worth 2 bucks) or second-hand (the jeans). But I figure it was money well spent because I want to have a lot of kids so they'll get a lot of wear. Hence my eternal search for maternity jeans that fit.

LP, I wish you lived here because you could see my biscuity boobies if my maternity jeans fit you.

i think any type of shower (wedding or baby) typically people think is a semi-dress up type occasion. i guess it depends on how fancy the affair is and the people throwing it.

for my best friend's shower i wore jeans and a nice shirt cause that's how i roll.

i knew my mom would be badgering me about dressing nice for my baby shower so i just bought a damn dress. grrrrrr....

i wore a dress to my wedding shower and put a hoodie over it and put my hair in pigtails.

i may do the same thing for this.

pretty sure a baby shower is just legalized torture

I was told to buy maternity clothes in my normal size (so if you could wear a medium shirt before, you should buy a medium maternity shirt). I bought mostly medium maternity shirts and large maternity pants. I had to have all the pants hemmed. (BTW, "petite" means shorter than average - so an x-large petite would be the same circumference as an x-large regular, but the length of everything would be a couple inches shorter, same as in regular clothing.) Remarkably, that worked for me almost till the end when I had to bump up to x-larges in bottoms and larges in tops. Everybody's butt and hips grow, I think, but the pants start out stretchier than normal pants so sometimes it's not a problem. I had to look put together throughout my pregnancy, so after I stopped being able to get away with stretchy dresses just one size bigger than my regular size, I went with professional looking maternity clothes, which were extraordinarily difficult to find. That was around 6 months in. I kept wearing them for quite awhile after giving birth because I didn't want to buy bigger size regular clothing, but eventually I bit the bullet. My nicer maternity pants are a lot nicer looking than my current professional attire.

My yoga pants fit me pre-preg, through preg, and post-preg now at 70 pounds heavier than I started out. Explain that! I did have to buy bigger underwear, because my underwear would roll down if I just wore it below my belly.

ETA: I have no idea where you get plus-sized maternity clothing that isn't complete crepe and that's actually a major fear of mine if I were to get pregnant at my current size. I'm wearing like a 20 in pants now an XL tops.

yeah i had to get some "business casual" clothes for work. blech. so i bought a pair of khakis and 2 nice shirts.
the shirts i would have needed no matter what so it was really just the khakis.
if it warms up i can wear the dress to work but im not holding my breath. my last day is the end of April so it's a bit dicey for spring dresses.

Can you wear nicer-looking leggings under your dress to work? I still pull that trick!

maternity clothes! I am so grateful I managed to avoid them altogether aside from one nice dress I ordered from ASOS [free international shipping, yes please!] and I totally could have gotten away without that, but I did like having something nice and also comfy to wear and we had a few kind of dress-up-nice family occasions in my late pregnancy so yeah.
Otherwise I just bought a few loose/stretchy clothes in a size up [or some that were even my normal size, but with stretch in the right places] and they saw me through. I bought one dress, three tops, and two skirts, and I'd happily wear all of them when non-pregnant so as much as I hate having to buy new clothes at any time, I don't feel too bad about it because at least they won't be super short-term use items..

also, I am even more pleased now that I have still never been to a baby shower!
