I'm joining the weight loss bandwagon - I definitely want to lose 20 lbs and would be ecstatic with 30 lbs. I just started working out regularly (Jillian Micheal's Body Revolution 1 week in and going ok) and am just trying to watch what I eat a little more carefully. (I am loosely following the Eat to Live type diet where "the salad is the main event"). My non-salad meals are mostly from AFR. For my last weight loss kick I was using the My Fitness Pal app which I liked pretty well - I have a new phone though and haven't reloaded it. Is there a different app anybody likes better for tracking food/exercise?

There's a bunch of using MyFitnessPal. I like it well enough. seems about equal to anything else, personally. I do like that I'm connected with other PPkers though! (athiker2010 or something for me? I posted it further upthread)

I've also lost more in inches again, which I'm happy about! I've learned that I lose more from torso than extremities first, which is interesting.

Tofulish, if it's practical for you, try logging all your food the day before, or in the morning. I do that and it really helps keep me on track.

They do calories, carbs, fat and protein :) I used it when I was pregnant, mostly to make sure I was getting over 60g of protein.

Its good - I've been making high fat, toddler-friendly food and end up eating most of it when L gets picky. I need to start tracking better and freezing leftovers instead of eating them. I've also just been careless - I'll eat 2 bagels stuffed with vegan cream cheese or a whole batch of cookies. At this point, my knees are acting up, so I really should lose this extra 20 - 25 lbs that I put on in the last 3 years....

A big part of my problem is grazing on leftovers too. It adds up!

I do what ashley suggested and pre-log my food - sometimes I end up changing things around a bit later, but overall it has been working for me and I've been losing weight. I even pre-plan what drinks I'm going to have, other than teas which are negligible calorie-wise. It's really easy to make sure you're getting enough protein or calcium or whatever it is you're tracking that way because you can establish a good balance beforehand. Or sometimes I'll pre-log 3 meals but leave 200-300 calories available outside of that for snacks to be determined later. :)

I think I am going to have to get on the my fitness pal bandwagon. I tried keeping a food diary but I got lazy. Sounds like mfp is a good route to go

MFP really helps me stay on track.

I am down a few pounds which is good. I was having a moan about the weight I've put back on but when I looked back, I realised I am still 25 pounds lighter than I was at my heaviest. So there's that! haha.

As usual I struggle with motivation, even though I'm a bridesmaid in August and we're probably going to be wearing light coloured dresses - ugh. I've started trying on the clothes I want to fit into again, that always used to help keep me on track. I need to lose a couple of inches to fit into my slutty goal dress I mentioned before. I can totally do that if I stick to my diet.

Yeah! I've been measuring as my fancy expensive scale is broken and I don't even know where to get a new one. I'd like to double check my weight at some point as right now I'm just hazarding cautious guesses at weight loss on MFP based on my measurements.

Yeah this. You definitely don't have to weigh yourself. I've stopped weighing myself every week because I find it really demotivating.

My mum and dad get obsessed when they're dieting and end up weighing themselves pretty much every day. It drives me nuts because they bang on about it constantly.

Yeah. I've been weighing every time I pass because I want to get below 144 finally. I'm driving myself nutso and that's not great. I think I need to stow the scale for a month.

Ie been meeting my goal of regularizing and improving my eating, so the rest should follow eventually.

I really like that idea of pre-recording the eats for the next day! I did find tracking my food helpful in the past mostly because I thought it was a pain to input it so I would think twice before I ate something because I was going to have to put it in my log! So that would go double if i had to record it the day before, then CHANGE it the next day if I deviated. I think I'm a gonna do it.

Tofulish - are you following a specific calorie count right now? I have seen some varying things about calories and nursing and weight loss. Normally I find I need to follow a 1200 calorie diet and exercise to lose weight so while nursing I was reading to add 300-500 calories to that? Does that line up with what you have read/are doing?

Yep, in MFP you can also track measurements so that's a good way to do it if you don't have a scale. Not sure what your situation is, but for anyone who's looking more to "tone up" or whatever it probably makes more sense to do it that way, because your weight can fluctuate while your measurements get smaller.

I like using a scale, but for me the numbers have (usually) been going down on average as the weeks go by so it has been sort of motivating. If you're weighing yourself weekly it's a good idea to do it at the same time of day every time, because your weight can fluctuate so much over the course of the day depending on what you eat and drink. Like for example I weighed myself yesterday morning when I woke up and the scale said 164, then I weighed myself out of curiosity late last night and it said 166.2. I weighed myself again just now and it was back to 164.

Uh yeah, so after a small fast for the endoscopy, I've proceeded to eat some Lucy's cookies, an entire Tofurkey pepperoni pizza, and a bunch of Ritz crackers topped with tofu dill salad. I feel gross and over full now. Blech.

I guess it's a good reminder of how Ive felt better with my healthier,more regular meals. I should have had a nice smoothie, then the tofu salad on top of Wasa wafers with a salad. I'm not tracking points today. Ugh. Do not wish to know WW points value for an entire pizza.

Back on track tomorrow. Hopefully can start water aerobics next week.

I got brave and stood on the scales this morning even though I am still waiting for my period (which is now 3 days late) and I weighed in at 134lbs. Surprised considering the intensity of my cravings has been unreal and I haven't been able to resist eating huge amounts of sugar and carbs. Hopefully by the time my period finishes I will be near enough to my pre-vacation weight.

I will try eating 1800 calories from tomorrow on. It is strange for me because I never tried to eat a diet with so many calories, but maybe that makes it more doable in the long run? Plus I can always go lower, I just need a normal framework already.
