Apologies if this has been hashed out I did try the search but it didn't really drill it down to men's needs as much as I hoped or I just wasn't doing it right.

At any rate what are folks using for shaving soaps/creams/oils etc? I am not looking for razors, brushes, lotions or ointments (I am covered there) but specifically looking for animal free shaving soap, currently I use soap but am open to whatever. Big plus if anyone has experience with the products they mention but all I really need is to be set on course.

Thanks

Craig

Kiss My Face Moisture Shave is the ONLY product that doesn't break out my sensitive skin. But I am not a man, and I am talking about legs. I don't see why it wouldn't work for your face (or whatever else you feel like shaving).

I use conditioner. Like, for your hair. This was after reading this:

Quote:

advice
POSTED BY NEIL AT 11:47 AM

I'm fairly nervous about teaching at Clarion this year. I said no when asked for years, because I wasn't sure what I had to teach anyone about writing. Mostly I figure I'm still figuring it out myself. I finally said yes, and I still don't think I know enough to dare to actually teach anyone.

In the shower today I tried to think about the best advice I'd ever been given by another writer. There was something that someone said at my first Milford, about using style as a covering, but sooner or later you would have to walk naked down the street, that was useful...

And then I remembered. It was Harlan Ellison about a decade ago.

He said, "Hey. Gaiman. What's with the stubble? Every time I see you, you're stubbly. What is it? Some kind of English fashion statement?"

"Not really."

"Well? Don't they have razors in England for Chrissakes?"

"If you must know, I don't like shaving because I have a really tough beard and sensitive skin. So by the time I've finished shaving I've usually scraped my face a bit. So I do it as little as possible."

"Oh." He paused. "I've got that too. What you do is, you rub your stubble with hair conditioner. Leave it a couple of minutes, then wash it off. Then shave normally. Makes it really easy to shave. No scraping."

I tried it. It works like a charm. Best advice from a writer I've ever received.

Another vote for the Kiss My Face. Mr. Squiggle has really sensitive skin and it works like a charm on him.

Apparently olive oil is meant to be good. I don't know though because I'm female and I use an epilator. Although you could use one of them if you fancy a bit of torture!

Mr. Coot (and I) use Kiss My Face Moisture Shave too. It's the only shaving cream he likes.

My guy uses/loves the soap from Herban Cowboy, I dig the smell and he does to!

Yeah, my fiance uses this, too. The smell is too strong for me but you'll like it if you dig manly cologne-scented things.

The Kiss My Face shave stuff works well enough, but it leaves my skin feeling weirdly squeaky clean with no slip to it. Like it sucks all the moisture from my skin.

I use soap or if I want something moisturizing, I use conditioner.

Well, recently I've just been using hair conditioner, but that's on my legs and I'm not sure how much you would enjoy that on your face. I used to use Alba shave cream back before I was being cheap. They definitely don't animal test and a lot of their products are vegan, but double-check the ingredients because I think some of their things contain beeswax.

Thanks guys this does help me on my way. I am just recently getting off of certain animal products (I am not a vegan). Diet wise this is hardly a ripple in the road as all I had to do is stop eating something I have been eating only two or three times a month at most if that for years now anyway. That part is a cinch especially given that a large part of my meals I make from scratch so I have the cooking experience for this to be seemless in that department. I am now just kind of looking at the other things in my life which for me will be the challenging part though, this being one of them and likely more inquiries to come.

You rule for taking steps in the vegan direction! I know it can be a process replacing everyday products. One thing you may find helpful is browsing a website like veganessentials.com - besides being able to order yummy foodstuffs, you can check out body care products, as well as shoes, gloves, belts, cleaning products, and a million other things that can be hard to find in the real world.

My husband has a lot of coarse, fast growing facial hair and he uses conditioner and likes it better than any shaving cream he's ever tried. We just buy a bottle of the cheapest vegan conditioner we can find and share it.

Anyone have recs for a good face wash/lotion/product for ingrown hair? My boyfriend gets nasty ingrown hairs on his neck jawline. I tell him to change his blade more, he thinks that is dumb. He uses a facial loofah and moisturizes...I am thinking he needs something with AHA to get rid of dry skin.

homemade tendskin would work- it's just aspirin, alcohol, and witch hazel. The alcohol could be drying on the face, though.

I use the CVS uncoated kind which I thought was vegan, but I've had the bottle for a while so I'm not sure. I should email them to check on it again.

ETA: I checked on their website and as far as I can tell it just contains aspirin and starch:

http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/ ... uId=177974

Not sure if you have CVS where you are, but they've also confirmed that their store brand does not use animal testing.

What about a toner with salicylic acid? Alba and Burt's Bees both sell them in their acne lines.

Cool beans! Every aspirin I have ever seen contains steric acid!

Problem with toner - you use cotton balls: he hates cotton balls to the point I use them as a weapon against him!

There was a girl like that in my cosmetology class, she hated the feel of cotton wool, I didn't know that was a thing before I met her.

I use Barbasol, you forking hippies.

I know that they don't test on animules, but it's never actually occurred to me that it might contain animal ingredients. And I see now that it does contain stearic acid, without specifying the source.

The good news is that I've just learned that stearic acid is often produced from the fat of (cry) euthanized cats and dogs (cry cry), so at least they have an ethical source (oh my god I'm shaving with dead kitties) for the stuff.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go shave all the skin off my cheeks.
