I really like frosting, but I get heart burn after a while then I have to stop.
Plain fondant icing... not so much of a fan. Unless its on a cherry bakewell.
I also really enjoy eating muffins from the base up, and if I've made a cake and the edge has gone a little crunchy on the edge, I save that for last because that shiitake is gooooooood.

But I see this is the pet peeves thread so I guess I'll add in... they've discontinued life free dairy free parmazano which was amazing IMO, they put lactose in some ketchup (um, why the fork?), they've put egg in Asda's light salad cream which used to accidentally be vegan. And egg. Just eggs cropping up in nearly all veggie meat alternatives. Redwood and Fry's can do it!!! Why can't you?!

Although I suppose these are more inconveniences rather than pet peeves but hey ho.

Now I'm tempted to put on my resume: "Member of Team Frosting".

My mind must be slow, because at the supermarket the other day I couldn't understand why they'd put eggs and cheese in fake chicken nuggets. I was thinking of cheese with casein for lactose-intolerant people and was like, are there people allergic to chicken? Then I remembered vegetarians.

Team frosting is crazy, frosting is just out to ruin cake.

Mmmmmmmm frosting! Next time you come to NYC maybe we should go to Sweet Avenue together linail and split a cupcake. You get the cake and I'll eat all the frosting :)

I'm all for that. So the solution is to pair up with cake haters :)

I usually like frosting, but somehow I just don't like the Sweet Avenue frosting that much. I'd want to put a Sweet Avenue cupcake together with some Babycakes frosting.

Gosh, this cake-frosting thing is divisive! I was strictly a frosting person until I started baking cakes from scratch, then I realized cake is actually awesome. I like frosting okay but a lot of the time I like coconut whipped cream as a frosting instead since eating a big pile of that on top of a cupcake won't make me feel sick.

Cake and frosting are both pretty good on their own, but I'm a big fan of combining the two. No one?

Team Frosting! Cake is simply a vessel for frosting. My deal cake would be 2" thick with 2" of frosting. My husband is on Team Just-A-Little-Frosting. As you can imagine, this is a huge issue in our marriage.

I think we need an official Team Frosting thread/club.

Well, we must be positive people (with a sweet tooth), because in a thread about peeves we always end up going on about nice things like oreos and frosting.

I bet those that like frosting are the same that like the Oreo cream.

I wish there was somewhere nearby that made vegan cupcakes. I really must get my oven working again.

I want oreo cupcakes with oreo frosting to go with my oreos.

I have no peeves but I'm totally on team cake, I don't dislike frosting but I prefer cake.

This thread is now making me want to go drown my feelings in a tub of frosting. I am not anti-cake, I just really like frosting. PPPP's 2"x2" solution sounds ideal to me.

::throws down some mad PPPP love ::

Guilty! I'm more of a fan of the cookies.

This thread made me bake a chocolate sponge cake with vanilla-hazelnut custard, chocolate ganache, and hazelnut brittle, and eat 3 slices. You're fattening me up.

My peeve is that I'm not eating that right now.

I don't know if I've ever had a custard frosting? I am down with ganache though, that isn't frosting.

You're welcome here, the more you eat, the less I'll eat. (I always tell this to my SO, and then he accuses me of trying to fatten him up and eat him.)

linanil wrote:

Custard frosting: make double strength custard / pudding: 500 ml (2 cups) soya milk + 80 g cornstarch + sweetener to taste + nut butters, cocoa powder, or flavouring extracts. Let cool to room temperature, and then in the fridge. Blend with just enough vegan margarine to get a smooth paste (about 30 g).

Keep the cake covered because if the frosting dries out in the fridge, it cracks.
