woohoo, i'm almost an oldschool vegan too :) i've been vegan for almost half my life! 17 years i think now... i have been meat free since 1993 :) and i remember well the days of no vegan convenience foods hahaha. and making horrible carob cake that was both rubbery and hard because the vegan cookbooks that were available in my area were dismal. and the joy of lucking onto a good homemade vegan mayonnaise recipe!!! what a revelation!

yeah that sets up unrealistic expectations for newbies!!

veganism is a not a magic pill!
some people still get sick and have health problems.

oh well i still am inspired by all the cool old skewl kids

I was talking about this last night with my guy. Can't wait til I've been vegan for more than half my life! I've only got 5 years under my belt (in June), but we're getting there!

I will be 75 before I've been vegan half my life. I'd already passed that mark with vegetarianism by the time I went vegan. So much admiration for the people who were that much smarter than me!

I haven't read the whole thing yet either, but I think I will eventually. I really liked the medical doctor near the top who said it was in line with his pledge to "do no harm" - that's how I feel too! As nurses, we don't have the same oath, but the overall aim of my education and future profession is to reduce suffering.

Thanks for posting this. I like the 'do no harm' mantra as a way of living an ethical life (beyond veganism) and it's nice to be reminded of that.
