same with a place down here - same thing - all the time. i guess they figure they are giving us a vegan option - we should be happy.

Her 'logic' is that people come to expect something, so she needs to keep it around. Fine, but offer something else occasionally, because other people like variety!

Beagles know how to celebrate one's last day at a job.

This is the best! I love that all the beagles in the background are lunging for the cake, they are such bad dogs!

There's a nice bakery here and they have a vegan option (chocolate applesauce cake). Same thing, every day. You can order a vegan layer cake but hey, guess what? The only option is the same chocolate applesauce cake, but with weird chocolate icing.

On the one hand, I do really appreciate that they offer something vegan (and they do a vegan bread and have a vegan soup option pretty regularly). But! They make sooooo much stuff and they try to be really good about offering allergen-free things. So they have egg-free cookies, but they have dairy in them. Dairy-free muffins with eggs in them. They could make things so much easier on themselves (and me!) if they'd just make a few more things vegan.

they really are! one is jumping and licking his lips like CAKE!

their little vests say "protecting american agriculture" so they must sniff for specifically fruits/veggies.
i bet my beagle mutt could do that! he is so greedy! he'd be like "i get to sniff for food in peoples' suitcases!?!?! where do i sign up?"
he already has scent training too but not of this variety.

I have a little postcard I got from one of the fruit sniffing beagles as a little kid. We were flying in or out of the USA, I don't remember, and I had a satsuma in my bag, the doggies sniffed me out and took my satsuma :( But then I was upset so they let me pet the dog and gave me a postcard from him! Kinda sweet actually. Mum loves that story!

There is an animal shelter within the JFK airport area, and there they keep forgotten/lost pets as well as regular rescues. Within the same building, there are also horses and the beagles seem to live there. I remember when I would walk by with one of the rescued dogs, they would bark like crazy and jump and lunge at the gate separating us. I didn't get the feeling they were being aggressive...just very nosy and excited and very adorable.

I wasn't sure a beagle could be aggressive, but I just googled it and it seems like it is extremely rare but possible.

Yeah they generally aren't aggressive at all, that is one of the big reasons they use them in animal testing.

i think any dog has the *potential* to be aggressive if treated poorly and raised poorly but my own beagle mutt is basically a door mat.
i have a super reactive lab (normally the quintessential family dog) so dogs can definitely behave outside their breed norms.

the beagle is timid/fearful but never snaps.
no matter how much you rile him up he only licks never like does a play chomp like our other dog who will chomp your face if you get him riled up and stick your face in his (not recommended)

ive seen him with kids and he just stands there and let's them do whatever.
he is super super submissive with people and is known to roll over and just show his belly like "i surrender!" (though what he really wants is a belly rub)

so yeah. aggressive beagle is hard to picture though im sure it's possible.

they're too busy plotting how to get you to give them food!

I wonder if they get paid in confiscated food.

They don't get any of the confiscated food but they do get treats for every find.

Miss Willow would be so good at this, she is always searching through my stuff and finding the food. Then Dinger comes and takes it.

$10 for a drink? It better have some booze in it (but that's just me)

I found this really cool vegan 'bowl' place on my last business trip. Went out of my way to go to it, with a killer hangover, just to check it out.

Asked if everything was vegan at the counter: Yes. Ok, what is your favorite? "the warrior bowl, it has fresh acai ice cream, granola, almonds, fresh bananas, strawberries, mango and HONEY"

Um what? that's not vegan. I was to tired to argue and just ordered it without the honey. It was really REALLY good. But that was a bit off-putting to hear that. I do not get as grossed out with honey as I do with any other animal products, but I do avoid it. If you say something is VEGAN then, well, it should be. Or put a disclaimer or something.

I'm not trying to start ANOTHER honey discussion...its more of an advertising/marketing thing that bugs me.

They didn't send me one either, so I emailed them and they said it was supposed to be replaced with a Hail Merry something or other, but I didn't get that either, so they're going to send me both the Beyond Eggs and the Hail Merry stuff with my April box. Email them!

I don't want to pee on the Beyond Eggs parade, but it's specifically 'for cookies'. I just glanced over the booklet, but you can see the ingredients and it's starches and comes with cookie recipes so it's supposed to be more like ener-g than something you mix with water and it magically becomes like scrambled eggs.

Yeah, I didn't get a booklet though. I was thinking it might be more like Vegg? where you can mix it with tofu? But it appears that isn't the case?

And I should say if I can use it I would use eggs, maybe I can find a non-vegan pancake recipe and use it or I can be brave and try the minimal ingredient type cookies. When I wasn't vegan, I basically ate eggs as eggs and hardly used them for anything else so I'll have to think how to use them.

Ha! Had a beagle who used to come to daycare who had no sense of boundaries and felt so entitled to everything in life that he decided the best way to deal with me was to try and bite the crepe out of me when I would grab him by the collar.

He did it twice, and I stood there and let him bite me all the way to "time out". Then he gave up since biting meant no more playing!
