They look really good! I hope they're miraculously cheaper than Dr Cow or Punk Rawk Labs but I'm not counting on it.

Yeah, I haven't tried Dr Cow or Punk Rawk Labs because they're so expensive... I need an excuse to splurge sometime. I hope these are a little more affordable. Waaahhh.

I really doubt they'll be cheaper. Too bad there only in Northern California to start, it looks so good.

Those look good! I hope Treeline Cheese expands out of the NY area. They are $8-9, but in much bigger sizes than Dr. Cow.

Where can you buy these in NY? I looked on their website but didn't see a vendor list.

I've only seen them at the monthly vegan shop up, but they just got a larger production facility, so hopefully they will have it at more places soon.

I went to Crossroads (Tal Ronnen's new restaurant) on Friday and they have a kite hill cheese plate on the menu there already. They are really, really good. My husband and I both especially loved the one called White Alder. It tastes so much like brie. I haven't had anything else like it since going vegan. Supposedly there will soon be a little cheese shop within the restaurant where you can buy them as well, for any southern california people.

I just bought some and they're really good! The texture's really nice. The white alder is super mild. It's been ages since I've had cheese so I can't really compare. It's not sharp at all and is very creamy. The costanoa reminds me a bit of mozzarella?

For the price though ($14/6 oz container!!) this will be an extremely rare purchase for me.

couroupita- Did you find it at whole foods? I didn't realize it was already in stores. That is damn expensive though.

edit- oh wait. I just saw on facebook that they're only in palo alto whole foods right now.

I bought the one flavor they had ("Costanoa") and was pretty disappointed. Maygles and I both were surprised at how flavorless it was and will definitely not be dropping $14 on it again. Someone I know tried that one and the While Alder flavor and thought neither one was very good. I'm really surprised that it wasn't better!

Yeah I brought them to a ppk meetup last night and the consensus was that they were too mild. I liked the costanoa quite a bit but I liked it mostly for texture and topping more than the flavor of the cheese. The alder was more salty than cheesy.

I've eaten about half of the block now and I'm not really digging it anymore. Hopefully they tweak the recipe a bit in future batches! Maybe age it longer?

I picked up the White Alder after dithering about it (I think it was $15) and yeah, it's not super flavorful. There's an insert in the package that says it sharpens as it ages, so in two or three weeks it should be more distinctive, perhaps? It's pretty spendy to not be wowed by it but maybe it's taking its time.

They are storing it in with the dairy cheeses, if you go looking for it. The first thing the cheese guy that was working when I was there said was, You know that's a vegan cheese, right? I was like, Yes! Is there one would you recommend? :D It doesn't sound like they have a regular delivery though, at the moment. So if anyone tries one and like it, definitely say something!

FYI - Treeline will make an announcement about online sales during the week of April 8.

We are also expanding into the Chicago area and plan to be in California in the next few months.

Aging it 3 weeks means it got moldy! Though the date on it is 4/30, so maybe that is normal cheese bloom or something? I don't know about cheese! There's a fine white powdery down on the top that comes off if I rub it. I was looking forward to trying it aged as it did sharpen up noticeably in a week.

Ah, the tragedy of saving For Special.

I really liked the white alder. The texture wasn't perfect, but the flavor was amazing, and on a cracker with a sliver of pear, it was something I never thought I'd get to taste again. I thought it was worth it for a special occasion.

I was going to sit here and whine to myself that they don't have it in my town. . . But they do, and I apparently pass over it every time I'm at Whole Foods' faux meat/cheese section? I must check this out!
