I thought that I would make a separate topic for the April potluck. It'll help keep things for organized, or least I hope so!

Just to recap, the potluck will be at Diana's in Oak Park on Saturday April 6th at 2:30 PM. We are having an around the world themed potluck, which should be a lot of fun!

So far we have:
Hector - Middle East
Jeni - South America
Nissa - French
Diana - Africa
Mike - Thai
Megan-Eastern Europe / Russia

Is anyone else joining us for next month's potluck. I am really looking forward to it! :)

I'm looking forward to it too! I just got Artisan Vegan Cheese, and started experimenting with brie, so I'll see how that turns out. I'm also thinking I'll make some French bread, and either some sort of entree or maybe a dessert.

I'm looking forward to it, too! Also, would anyone mind if my (non-vegan, but super veg-friendly) boyfriend joined us? He'll actually be in town that weekend.

I think that Hector and I have decided what to bring! Hector is going to be making za'atar bread. We will also make falafel and some sort of dip.
For South America, I will be making Venezuelan Hallaquitas, Guasacaca, and maybe empanadas.
I want to make a dessert, but not sure if it'll be Middle Eastern or South American! So many choices. :)

I think I'm going to bring a Russian salad, with chopped vegetables and vinegar. I remember one I loved from the Russian restaurant we used to go to when I was a teenager, and I'm going to try to recreate it.

Sounds like I'll be the only un-coupled person there. Maybe I should bring Oliver as my "date"! :p

I'm still undecided about what to make. The cheese is still in progress, so I'll see how it turns out. I found some recipes for coq au vin, cassoulet, and ratatouille that all sound good. And I love to bake, so I'm tempted to try the croissants and/or pain au chocolat from the Vegan Dad blog. Decisions, decisions!

Oliver is a pretty good date!

And everything you're thinking of bringing sounds amazing.

Everything sounds wonderful!!! And I'm looking forward to meeting our special guests - including Oliver if he comes :-)

Mike is going to make the Massaman Thai Curry from Vegan Eats World.

For Africa, I'm making a Ugandan dish of Sweet Potatoes, Spinach, and Chickpeas with Peanut Sauce (http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipe/g ... -potatoes/). I'm also going to have chips & salsa with this Kenyan salsa: http://www.articlesbase.com/salads-arti ... 86173.html

See you all Saturday!

Everything sounds amazing! Nissa do you want us to pick you up? Maybe around 2?

Hector is still making his za'atar bread. I know that Diana made muhammara last time, but I think that I might make it only because I have all the ingredients and a huge jar of roasted red peppers to use up! I also am hoping to get the the Middle Eastern Grocery store today and pick up some pita bread!
I am also attempting to make the baklava recipe from The Joy of Vegan Baking. Phyllo dough intimidates me, so it might not turn out that great!

For South America, I am going to make the creamy corn-filled empanadas from Viva Vegan.

It looks like we are bringing lots of carbs! :) just an f.y.i. {I am eating some gluten because I was getting too sick without gluten. I think a little bit here and there doesn't hurt!}

If it's not too much trouble, that would be awesome! I was joking about bringing Oliver, but now that I won't have to wrangle him plus the food on the bus/train, maybe I will. Thanks so much for the offer!!

I wound up going with white bean cassoulet and pain au chocolat. I don't think the cheese is working out. :( But I'll bring the book in case anyone else wants to give it a try, and maybe I'll keep working on it for the next potluck.

And everyone remember to bring your favorite cookbooks to share, and a camera! Can't wait for tomorrow!

I am looking forward to trying Muhamarra done the right way :-) I didn't have the Pomegranate Molasses last time!

Baklava and Pain Au Chocolat sound HEAVENLY! I will also have a huge bowl of sliced Strawberries - they were 99 cents a pound at the French Market downtown!

I'd still be up for trying the cheese - even if the texture isn't right I imagine it still tastes good?

I'm charging my camera batteries tonight for lots of recipe "photo-copying" and pics of all the gorgeous food everyone is bringing!

No, the taste is weird, salty and vinegary. Granted, I've never had the dairy version, but this doesn't seem right at all. And the appearance is completely wrong too - I think I may have a contender for the grossest food porn thread! And I don't think the pain au chocolat came out right either, but I'll bring it anyway. Oh well, at least the cassoulet seems pretty tasty.

Hi All!

Saturday's Potluck was EPIC!!! Thanks so much to all who came. It was a great time and the food was phenomenal!

Just posting here to let everyone know I'm starting a new thread for our next Potluck - Cinco De Mayo!
