Yay, Toronto forum!

So, I'm still a fairly new vegan, and I don't live in the city but a couple of friends and I usually end up in T.O for birthday get togethers. And they're both pretty thrown off by this whole vegan thing. One loosely does the paleo thing (very loosely) and can only handle smallish amounts of soy because she's mildly allergic, and the other is Greek and likes to use the "don't worry, I'll make lamb" line from Big Fat Greek Wedding. But they're both very supportive and will take me anywhere I want and I know the one has started scoping places out already but I don't know what's been recommended to her.

I guess my question is, where can we go that will thoroughly impress them? Sadie's is a little casual for the occasion, and it's the only place I've been so I'd like to branch out. I think Hogtown might be a little soy-heavy from their menus online.

Suggestions?

Oh, I should add that my birthday is at the beginning of May. So extra points to anywhere with a patio in case it's nice enough to sit outside.

Yay Toronto Forum!

What about Fresh? They definitely have non-soy options.

Happy early birthday!

Live Organic Food Bar is pretty classy, they have a patio when the weather is nice (at least, at their one location, not sure about the new one opening soon), and their raw options won't contain soy.

How about Ethiopian? There are a couple of really delicious places in Toronto (well more than that!). M&B Yummy is completely vegan (in Parkdale just west of Dufferin on Queen St). Then there's Nazareth on Bloor (south side) just east of Dovercourt. They have veg and non-veg options. Delicious, but way too many tvs! There are also some good options on Danforth, but I don't remember their names. :(

Both Fresh and Live offer brunch - and this makes me obscenely happy. I love brunchy things. But their dinner menus also look tasty. Dammit, they're not helping me decide, LOL

I don't know if I could get them to swing something like Ethiopian, that might be too outside of their comfort zones but I'll ask.

You can't go wrong with either of those restaurants, they are both fantastic.

Fressen is back, in form of Grasslands. Anyone been or talked to someone who has been? I've read a few good reviews online.

I've told my friends I'd like to go to Live Organic or Grasslands. Because they both look really good. And that way they can pick whatever location is more convenient for whatever other thing we do. But I am kind of secretly hoping for Grasslands.

As I just posted elsewhere, went to Grasslands tonight. Service was really good, and the restaurant was lovely. Food was tasty and creative (to me, anyway!) but definitely pricey. Friends and I just shared some starters and ate really well.
