I know someone in Austin whose favorite restaurant is Taco Bell, and it kind of horrifies me. It is a lifesaver on road trips though.

I totally want to go to Taco Bell now and make that order.

The tofu package opener made me laugh and laugh. Actually, a bunch of them did.

I didn't see any milk products in there, but maybe someone else has better superveganlabelvision than I do. Milk would also have to be listed as an allergen, which it appears not to be for the rice.

Yeah, the only people I know who eat plain tofu out of the container (it isn't actually "raw," so..) are omnis who want to prove to themselves that vegetarianism is gross. I may or may not eat sticks of baked tofu out of the fridge, though. I'm not on trial here.

I think that the dutch apple Marie Callendar pies are vegan (but wouldn't bet my life on it meeting other people's ingred. standards).

And everyone knows that Wildwood aioli is the preferred condiment.

i met some people for a subway tunnel tour a few years ago, and one of them pulled a container of plain tofu out of his bag while we were waiting in line and started eating it with his hands. i think he had brought it from home, but we were right outside of a trader joe's, so he might have stopped and bought it before meeting up with us. i don't think that guy was even vegan, but he was still too vegan for me. i mean, i don't have a problem with cold, plain tofu, and i've eaten it plenty of times, but i don't pack it in my bag lunch.

I'll eat plain uncooked tofu if it's cubed up in a salad or something (why don't salad bars ever cook tofu?), but plain out of the container is a little hardcore for me.

Years ago, I would order Crunchwraps like this, but with rice. Sometimes they would make it wrong three times in a row, but I was persevere and talk them through it. Worth it.

OK, I'm now going to focus on trying to un-know the plain tofu eaters. At least roll it in noochy panko and bake and serve with dipping sauce (wildwood aioli would be acceptable)! Otherwise it's just indecent.

Naw, it's cool and refreshing. It's not like a thing I do intentionally, but if I'm making dinner I'll sneak a piece of plain uncooked tofu before throwing it into the marinade or frying it up or whatever.

My dog LOVES plain cold tofu.

I took Spanish a couple of years ago with a vegan dude who ate a package of plain tofu every day. He mashed it up and spread it on bread.

Me too! Only if it is delicious day-fresh tofu from the local Asian shop though, the packaged stuff from the supermarket that has a shelf life of more than a month is a little too nasty for me to eat it plain.

ok this sounds amazing.

And plain tofu out the package? GAG!! It's taken me 2 years, since I said goodbye to my gallstones*, to be 100% ok with eating tofu again but I think eating plain uncooked tofu would send me back to square 1! In fact, even tofu that is still a bit soft makes me a gag a little. I generally cook it til it's chewy, or scramble it though.

*when I was sick, there were several foods that I couldn't even look at without wanting to vom and one was tofu.

I wouldn't eat plain tofu straight out of the pack, but I usually eat a couple of pieces of cold smoked tofu while I'm chopping it.

But that Engine Shed smoked tofu is HAMAZING. I could easily eat the whole pack, 'raw', in a one-er. But I only get it about 4 times a year. Sadness.

You don't press it? I agree this is the best tofu I've had, but I still press it. What happens if I don't????
