Hey all, I'm coming home all next week for my mom's 60th birthday and she has put me in charge of finding a restaurant that will feed me (the vegan) and my family (the omnis). Does anyone have any recs? Last time it was Soby's, who was very good about acommodating me but all I got was a plate of unseasoned quinoa and grilled veg. That's it.

Ethnic food is out because my weird-ass family doesn't roll that way (though I totally do), so places that are smart-casual, slightly celebratory would be good.

I grew up in Greenville and visit often, as my family still lives there.

My family can all agree on Lieu's Chinese Bistro--it's on Woodruff Road. Also on Woodruff Road is Brixx Pizza. I haven't been to the one in Greenville, but we have one here and it's pretty good. Not the best pizza ever, but decent. Happycow also lists a place called Your Pie on Woodruff Road. Their menu specifies vegan cheese as an option (never been there, though).

I love the Pita House, but that's a small place (but oh so yummy). Barley's Taproom is downtown. I think their soy cheese is vegan, but I can't swear to it.

Happycow lists a place called Chicora Alley downtown, but I've never been there (nor heard of it before now). It's downtown as well.

Also, though these are chain places, I know of a few more places. They have a P.F. Chang's, which has vegan dishes. I eat at Romano's Macaroni Grill when I head that direction and get the build your own pasta. [I get spaghetti with Pomodoro sauce and some veggies (usually brocolli rabe, roasted mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, sometimes spinach instead of mushrooms). The bread there is also vegan that they leave on the table, but the roasted eggplant that you can choose is not (which I unfortunately found out only after eating it numerous times).] I think they also have a Ruby Tuesday's and usually RT has a spaghetti squash marinara which is vegan w/o the cheese.
