I was pretty disappointed with Karyn's cooked, but Karyn's on green is awesome. For some reason I go to the Diner all the time, but I've never had a milkshake. Am I crazy?

I haven't had a milkshake either.... are we both crazy? They look great, but so filling... I need room in my tummy for fries and other stuff. I haven't been to either Karyn's, but the food looks good!

Which place was your favourite? The diner was my fav. The lasagna at Karyn's was good, but the cake was rather dry (hence the lack of photo).

Taymer wrote: I wonder how vegan friendly is the windy city..will check the square for answers.. Chicago's pretty vegan friendly, for such a meat and potatoes (or hot dogs and deep dish pizza) kinda place. The only unfortunate thing is that there are few truly vegan restaurants. There are many totally vegetarian ones, and even more that have meat but a few really awesome vegan dishes. In addition to Karyn's and The Diner, there's a lot of great places down in the Wicker Park area. Earwax's vegan benedict is the stuff of dreams. Handlebar constantly amazes me with their incredible awesomeness. And I lovelovelove Sultan's Market. Best falafel ever, and their Grandma's lentil soup amazes me every time. I think it's the lemon. I've never been disappointed with any of them. I can't sing their praises enough. I love Chicago Diner. I've been there a bunch, but I've never had their milkshakes. But Pick Me Up (only a few blocks away) has some bomb shakes, and they're open late. I like strawberry & peanut butter--tastes like a PBJ! The last time I was at PMU, it looked like they expanded their menu a bit with a few more vegan options.

Yes to handlebar and sultan's. I pretty much live in the neighborhood for Handlebar's vegan biscuits and gravy. Mana has some amazing vegan options as well, its tapas style, with an asian flair, I sing its praises every chance I get.

The Chicago diner is great! I love the Reuben and my dog is actually named after that Dagwood sandwich.
I can't bring myself to pay $7 for a milkshake when my roommate makes their ice cream but Last summer I made those pb milkshakes every day.

I find it funny that the Chicago Diner is next to a 7-11 (or so it appears).
That milkshake looks amazing!
