The only place I've seen soy curls is Spoon's in Sydney. I think they're also selling stuff through the Radical Grocery in Melbourne, but I'm not sure if that includes soy curls. I bought a bag last time I was in Sydney but I haven't tried them yet! You could probably try contacting Spoon's about ordering some from them, since they're shelf-stable/easily post-able.

I've also discovered that Black and Gold milk bottle lollies from IGA are vegan. Apparently the spearmint leaves are too but they're vastly inferior to milk bottles so I didn't care about those. I got a bag this morning and they're not bad! They're not great either, but they're $2 junk food so you get what you pay for.

Wow! What on earth do milk bottle lollies have in them if not milk powder or something? That is so weird.

I found this online: Glucose syrup (wheat), sugar, starch (wheat), humectant (glycerine), water, flavour - might not be exactly the same but it was listed with the B&G brand name.

Yep, that sounds right! So yeah, they're pretty much not even food.

Haha! Yeah, I actually found these at the IGA near me the other day. But the spearmint leaves I saw there had gelatine, alas. I still think it's so weird that the milk bottles are the accidentally-vegan lollies, of all things.

I went to Aldi this morning at the opening time because as Erin mentioned I too dislike having to wait for people buying everything the store sells just to buy 1-2 items. There was a huge crowd there for some special item, I went to look for the aero chocolate but there was none :( I did buy a six pack of little boxes of fruit and nuts for the plane and made it to the register before anyone with heaps of items - win.

I'm very iffy on Aldi as well, for the reasons previously stated. I like my grocery aisles to be neat and ordered! But I may be willing to brave it for vegan aero bars.

Butler Soy Curls are available at Spoons, as Erin mentioned. I thought that Spoons did mail order. I don't think I have seen them elsewhere in Australia, but surely they will start appearing in the vegan stores now that they are here in one? I have a stash that I brought back from the US.

I used my soy curls for the first time last night! I was totally skeptical because I hate TVP, but they were pretty great. I have a bunch of Sydney trips planned for the second half of this year, so I'll be stocking up each time.

I am so in love with the Redwood chicken-style pieces, I can't stop eating them. Just great with lettuce and mayo on grainy bread. I also finally tried the Vegusto piquant cheese and of all the brands I've tried (& I'm pretty sure I've tasted all the ones available in Aus) it's by far the best. I forgive it for not melting.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to Sydney in early July so I'll have to stock-up on soy curls while I'm over there.

I complained about this already on Facebook, but the dark chocolate Aero bar block appears to have disappeared from Aldi :(

Also, can't live without the Tempeh "bacon" from Tofurky. If you're ever in Green Edge in Brisbane and they're out, I'm the culprit. Sorry (not sorry)

Noooo! I bought a bar a couple of weeks ago but it was the last one in the store, and the box wasn't even on the shelves- I was about to leave and then I saw it sitting on top of something else. I'll be so bummed if they're gone for good, even Boyfriend liked them and he hates dark chocolate.

Aw, mann! I was wondering why I couldn't find it, I'd been looking at at least 3 different Aldis as I travelled up the coast. Dammit!

I'm flying over to Brisbane tonight and then heading to Sydney from there on Thursday. I'll only be in Sydney a few nights but we're staying in an apartment so I should be able to cook a few meals. Besides the soy curls, any in particular you'd recommend from Spoons?

Also, does anyone know if there's anywhere close to the Brisbane or Sydney CBD where I might be able to stock up on chipotles in adobo sauce and tomatillos?

Also... I realise this is probably old news, but I've just discovered some of the larger Woolworths stores in Western Australia are stocking the Linda McCartney range. I tend to cook mostly from scratch these days but I'm thrilled to have an easy option for nights when I don't feel like cooking!

I love the Fry's mushroom pies, pretty much anything covered in pastry is good in my books though :p

A couple of new NZ products which I'm liking are Nice Cream which is a coconut cream based ice cream, they only have a few flavours but it's so much better than So Good or Lite Licks which are the only other brands here. I just wish they would have some of the flavours like the US brands.

Also proper chips in Smoked Paprkia flavour, nice being able to get chips more interesting that ready salted.

I know! We tried them a few months ago and besides being incredibly salty, the filling had the consistency of snot! We were quite disappointed too as we love the rest of the range. We tried the Linda McCartney mushroom and ale pies last week and I can't say I enjoyed them much more. My favourite vegan pies are funky pies but I haven't been able to find them in Perth for awhile now. I'm looking forward to trying the pies at The Green Edge this week!

I'd love to know what brand the smoked paprika chips are too. I love smoked paprika!

I know, these posts are making me hungry! I haven't had the Byron Bay Pies before. Can't wait to try them!

Sorry for pie-jacking the thread... we may now resume discussing chocolate. :-) I love Alter Eco Dark Quinoa chocolate but it's very expensive!

The brand is Proper Crisps (http://www.propercrisps.co.nz/) but it doesn't look like they are sold outside of NZ yet, I think they are quite a new company so maybe they'll start at some point.
