Tell me, can you get canned condensed milk? The sweet, luscious awesome stuff you use to make dulce de leche or just lick out of the can.
I'm considering bringing a case up north with me when I come. You know, to bestow upon vegan friends.

i think i've heard of people in Australia getting it.
this site may be a bisque to run through google translate but it has the detailed ingredients.
the stuff is really, REALLY good.

The only place I've seen it was at Pangea in Maryland.

the only thing i can think of is either mimiccreme or healthy top. or possibly rich whip. (found in kosher freezers)

I've never seen it here! And OMG dulce de leche? Also, condensed milk from a can was one of my favorite childhood snacks in Kenya (along with Golden Syrup and Milo!). YUM!

this mimicreme or rich whip i would assume is like cool whip type topping stuff, or cream for cooking?

this stuff is sweet, sweet very sweet for drizzling on stuff, i guess. i am not brazilian so don't understand the inherent need to put it in every dessert, but it is pretty damn good in coffee. They make a doce de leite [pre-caramelized version] but i have heard it's horrible. that was years ago though and i haven't seen it since. but i've seen people make doce de leite and Brazilian candies [brigadeiros, beijinhos] with it and it's quite nice.

I would pay some pretty incredible money for tinned vegan sweetened condensed milk. My husband drizzles it on fruit crumble (disgusting but delicious) and I used to boil it in the tins to make toffee/caramel/dulce de leche/whatever you want to call it!

well go figure. we don't have drinkable soymilk or decent tofu, red lentils, nooch, or vegan margarine of any type, but we have condensed milk. priorities.

I would not trade the things you don't have, even for condensed milk. Yikes.

yeah, they're in cartons as liquid, ready to be whipped at home.

that looks better than our palm oil-based alternative- it's vegan but it has that horrible palm oil mouthfeel.

this thread really brings back some great childhood memories :) my mom used condensed milk in many of her desserts... I wonder if slowly cooking down soy milk and sugar, and maybe a little coconut oil would work - like in a low crock pot?

ctate has a great recipe that I've made using soy milk powder, as part of her recipe for avocado pie (which I also made and it was wonderful): http://www.veganexplosion.com/avocado-pie

yeah I've bought it from them before, and it was from Brazil so there ya go Torque. I used it to replicate my mom's homemade Irish cream recipe and that was awesome.
