Finally getting home. I had to stay late for a review session that nobody showed up to, which meant no HOV lane, which meant 3 hr drive home.

I have wine and pasta. What would I do without Noodles & Company? I also have Molly, but she seems to want to just go back to my dad. I'm not going upstairs anytime soon because my numb leg isn't working after that drive, so she is strutting around my bed grumbling and clicking to go. I feel so loved :(

I thought it would be the worst thing about my day, but having my manager's boss in the office, sitting at the desk next to me all day really helped me stay focused and get a metric shit-ton of work done, even though he really wasn't paying much attention to me and wouldn't know what I do anyway. I'm off tomorrow and had been a little panicked about my workload so it turned out OK.

I conquered my fear of public speaking long enough to give a coherent speech about Middle English Prof, who has been the best thing about my entire academic year, at the teaching award dinner and she seemed really happy.

my brother walked for his PhD yesterday!!! I am super proud of him. He has overcome so much to get where he is today [he was a police officer, threatened the old boy structure by getting a decoration for catching a frigging bank robber as a rookie, got harrassed by the old boys leading up to death threats, and finally got thrown out of the force and state employment FOR LIFE on a false charge which involved a lot of publicity: one of these horrible buzzfeed typical-stupid-police-officer stories that you probably saw a few years ago. He was pursued by the press and the old force, and had to move, change his life, and start over with a stained record. He decided to go back to school, staying in the same state and facing harrassment from these turkeys the whole time, and is now teaching college in a neighboring state.]

it just gets better! the giant job that i had started to assume just vanished, it turns out was late because the client wanted to add approximately $1000 worth of work to it. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Work plans for my year in the US suddenly look much less dire than they did a day ago. happy dance continues. now back to work because, holy shiitake, i have a huge amount of work to deliver in a month. YEEHA! [maybe this not sleeping thing will work out for the best.....]

I JUST HUGGED A BABY! He is one of my favorite babies (friends' son). He is so happy, smiley, drooley, and generally delightful. What a joy!

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH! i've seen him twice here doing monologuey play-storytelling-type things. both times i walked out of the theater wanting to hug everyone in the world.

Apparently my group at work has a policy where everyone goes home at 2 p.m. on the day before a 3 day weekend. So I got home like 3 hours earlier than expected. Awwwwesome.

Also the last leg of my commute to work (a 5 mile bike ride) is so super forking beautiful that it made me kind of forget to hate the fact that I spent 2 hours commuting.

I just did a dopey revising job where i swear i spent half an hour researching the proper use of the word "buttocks". Which brought me to a forum full of butt jokes and puns [no, not the ppk, it was http://www.wordwizard.com/phpbb3/viewto ... =6&t=20089 ].
to think i get paid to do this stuff.
[i am revising a translation about a plastic surgery conference where they will be doing Live Butt Lift Surgeries Onstage! Bring a Case Study to Discuss with the Experts! Talk about a conference i would NOT want to interpret at.....]

GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS

I got an email back from one of the professors I emailed about an undergrad research opportunity!!!!!!!

OMG

The project I'd emailed him about is no longer active, but he asked if I'd be interested on working with grad students, and gave me the email addresses of the three grad students in his lab and said he was sure we could find a project for me to work on.

OMG

I'm so excited! He's currently working on something with carbon sequestration in trees. I'm an Ecology major, so this is right up my alley.

OMG

SQUEEEEEE

This has just made up for the last few really shitty months.

It gets better! I just checked my email again and another prof. emailed be back saying I'd be welcome to join them for some upcoming field work. OMG this day just keeps getting better.

Now, I wonder if there is anyway I could do both....

SL, that's awesome! It is so so good to get involved in research as an undergrad.

My good thing: two of my three grades were posted this morning, for the two classes where I felt like I bombed the finals and lost my chance at As in both. One class, I got an apologetic B+. (Ouch, but I earned it.) The other one, I must have done better on the final than I thought because... ... ... I got an A+.

I logged my hours spent working on that class this semester (as an experiment, to see if it would keep me on task more) and I spent well over 200 hours working on it. So even though it's just a letter on a paper, I am so pleased and excited to see that grade.

Best thing... unpacking and organizing with my dude. We removed 20+ empty boxes from a huge closet. We went through all of it and now everything fits on the shelves (including the addition of my stuff) and is organized. I didn't think he would let me go through it all and organize it, but he didn't care.

So far, I like living with him. He didn't care that I labeled a box "his name, books: airplanes and butt sex". I think this will work between us.

Also, I am at the VidaVeganCon, so the best thing about my day was pretty much every single moment of my whole day.

Great food, new friends, meeting new friends (what's up, Dynamite!?), having fun, learning, connecting, being with my mom (I brought my mom!).... The whole thing is great.

I love hanging out with you! And your mom. And the fact that your mom chimes up in classes! And the best thing about the conference is your charity cook zine (no offense, everything else).
