It's been released early, I was looking at the Amazon preview http://www.amazon.com/Sexy-Vegans-Happy ... 160868234X and I'm wondering if it's going to be out of season for me, he's talking in his intro about only serving these menus while the weather is warm enough to sit outside.

Anybody else getting/got it?

eh, it's a niche book. some of the meals he was showing off on his youtube page looks like you can just eat it whenever, but he made it for happy hour for his wife.

im getting this... eventually. (sigh)
(amazon's new thing stops combining all ready orders, and just do lump orders. so this is coming in november...)

Based on the "look inside" feature on Amazon, I think this looks like a really fun and useful little book! Unless I read problematic reviews from people using this one, I am going to pick it up. Speaking of warm weather, I could see making some of his small plate recipes, when it is too hot to think much about eating, and calling it dinner.

One caveat, I do notice that some of his recipes employ pre-made things like, for example, one that calls for canned chili. Generally, that sort of thing is not my deal, but, in this sort of book, I'm inclined to think its ok.

I really need to find some friends to entertain. I can't justify another menu-based entertaining cookbook until I stop eating cereal every night for dinner.

I am so happy to know I am not the only one who eats cereal for dinner!

I received a promo copy last week - will report back! I was admittedly turned off by the tone in the last book, but I've since met the author and he's just so nice and charming and see things in a whole new light. Also, I like cocktails a lot.

i find it odd that the shopping guide for each chapter is at the end of the chapter.

I just got mine today too. I plan on "forcing" some friends to come over for happy hour and give it a go. I'll be reporting back with pics on my blog soon.

My copy arrived today, my fears have been somewhat alleviated that it might turn out to use a lot of seasonal produce (the warm weather reference in the introduction had me anxious).
The book itself has that fresh newspaper smell, I love this smell, so I've been sniffing my book like mad! Kind of irrelevant I guess in the grand scheme of things. :)

I'm in two minds about the pictures, it has pictures, but there in black and white, I'm undecided if b&w pictures are better than no pictures at all. The next two weeks in my schedule are horrible, I'll have to wait to actually cook stuff and try it.

I know what you mean. My copy just arrived and so I have yet to make anything from the book. Still, the recipes and overall menu ideas look great. It is a fun book that I am looking forward to using. I wish the publishers of this little gem had given it a more uptown treatment using nicer paper and color photographs.

I finally gave this book a test drive making the Little India menu which includes Samosa Pizzas with Tamarind Chutney and Mint Chutney, Roasted Chana, and Stuffed Dates. With it, we served the recommended Mangled Mango cocktails. Everything was delicious and, most of all, the happy hour concept was a really fun departure from the way I normally entertain. Everyone had a great time. I normally only serve wine and have beer available when I have company over. Suffice it to say, the Mangled Mango cocktails were a big hit!

One thing that may be worth noting, when I was putting together the component dishes of this menu, my heart sank when I tasted the Mint Chutney. Though I usually love the stuff when I dine out in Indian restaurants, on its own, I thought SV's recipe tasted pretty bad. Served drizzled over the Samosa Pizza, though, the chutney was delicious and really put the pizza over the top.

We are already figuring out what menu we'll try next week. Something tells me that my meager liquor cabinet is going to be expanding!
