I'm moving to Hanoi next month to teach kindergarten for a year. Luckily, I'll be rooming with a fellow vegan friend from college. Still, any tips and tricks to life in Vietnam would be much appreciated!

Places to visit in Vietnam or the surrounding countries? How to deal with the plethora of meat that is consumed there? (I made the mistake of watching a couple cooking/travel episodes featuring Vietnamese cuisine...)

No advice. Just that it sounds exciting.

I haven't been to Vietnam but I've done some research on the web and talked to friends about their experiences finding vegan food. If you're staying put for a while, I imagine you'll adjust and be able to get your own snacks and fresh ingredients, knowing they're vegan, at the least. From what I've heard, Vietnam is one of the harder countries to avoid fish sauce everywhere, so the vegetarian-specific restaurants are usually your best bet. Eating fresh fruit whenever you can is key (and delicious)! Look for 'chay'.

Good luck! I have a friend visiting later this summer so I'll pass on her experiences if you're not there yet.
