Whoa. That sounds like a major disaster.
Perhaps this is why they were nowhere to be found at VidaVeganCon
What a bummer

Oh wow! That is sad. I hope it pulls itself out of its tailspin.

Not. Shocked. At all.

Having heard about the kinds of shenanigans going on at VegNews for several years now, I knew it was just a matter of time before the whole ugly thing imploded on itself.

I hope the editors and Colleen can band together and put out a new magazine that's even better! One that doesn't actually have photoshopped pictures of meat in it!

I heard this from Super Vegan this morning, but the source they provided was just to this tweet which doesn't really indicate the others have quit. Any more info available?

Colleen didn't quit, she's still there. So...

Nothing public that I know of. Emails have gone out to contributors and the like. It's not a secret.

For what it's worth, I totally support Elizabeth and Jenn (the editors) and I can't wait to see what each of them does next. They're both awesome writers and vegans.

Elizabeth is a great writer and I hope she publishes her fiction!

I was really excited when I first started reading VegNews more than ten years ago. So much so that I upped and moved to San Francisco to be an editorial assistent and stayed on for some freelance contributions when I moved back to Canada. I didn't always agree with the voice of the magazine and some internal decisions, but I had the opportunity to work with some amazing women, and we were all broken down to different extents, and it seems like everyone I am thinking of aside from Colleen (I love you Colleen!) has jumped ship. I'm really saddened by this, because even though I don't really read the magazine anymore, I know it has tonnes of readers who will be really disappointed if it can't stay afloat. And I also know that SO many former employees poured their hearts and souls into that magazine. Publishing an international glossy magazine is hard work!

The good news is that some extremely talented women have moved on and will be able to contribute awesomely to whatever new venture comes their way.

Hilariously enough, I just bought my first issue of VegNews in a long time and was thinking about finally getting a subscription. I know there are smaller vegan magazines out there, but seeing one in chain stores is awesome and I wish that would keep happening.

Or maybe it's time for Herbivore to come back.

Wow. That is an impressive amount of drama.

you know it's bad when they're basically paraphrasing a Mountain Goats song.

"No Children" is one of my favorite Mountain Goats songs ever, and I burst out laughing when I saw this. I mean, the whole Vegnews debacle isn't funny, but when I read what Joe [allegedly] said, all I could think was "I hope you DIE! I hope we BOTH DIE!"

The guy sounds like a huge penis. I don't know who is entitled to what, and I don't know what bad blood went on in their relationship BUT whatever the answers are to those two things, it does not warrant anyone going around acting like a huge baby. Poor VegNews.

Yeah, I remember the first time I found a copy of Veg News, was when it was a little black and white newsprint deal, and I found it at a veg restaurant, and I felt so thrilled and alive! It was grea to feel like I wasn't all alone! So, even after all these years,it has such a special place in my heart. I really hope this isnt the end of a classy and approachable looking mainstream vegan magazine.

I was this close to getting a 3 year subscription. Dammit. It's bad enough I had to move on after Satya! I mean, this is our only option, right? So many eggs in Veg Times.

Nope! There's Laika, which is a brand new vegan mag! You can get it through Vegan Cuts http://vegancuts.com/offer/laika-magazine-print-subscription

Also Chickpea! I have a digital subscription and it's pretty great. This is all very sad and forked up about VegNews, though, I hope it can rise from the ashes of douchebaggery like a fancy vegan phoenix.

I got an issue of Chickpea in digital version but I really don't like digital magazines and print is $20 an issue. So expensive!

I miss Herbivore

They've lost/fired a large part of their staff/columnists. I'm still hearing rumors of doom.

Alas. Following the facebook page instills me with optimism, but I figured that was too easy. I really like it - there's so much info and it's pretty and there are recipes. Sad.

Well this stinks. I renewed my sub in August so I hope the magazine survives. I alway look forward to getting the next issue. :(

So, it looks like the Nov/Dec issue is finally out - has anyone received a copy yet?
