Ok so I am a nervous flyer and I need to watch mindless comedies on the plane. Liiiike Pitch Perfect or Ron Burgundy or probably most Sandra Bullock movies. Can you suggest any that aren't too terrible? I mean, most Jennifer Aniston or Kate Hudson movies fall into the "too terrible" category. Also, nothing too dark and indy.

Identity Thief looks promising. Does anyone know if there's any airplane scenes? That's the other thing. There can't be airplane scenes.

Identity Thief was good -- I don't recall any airplane scenes.

Bridesmaids is absolutely hilarious, but it does have airplane scenes.

Oh my god I just made a list of like 15 of my favorite happy movies and realized they all show a flight at some point. What the crepe! That turns out to be a surprisingly difficult requirement. Damn. Here are some movies. I don't even know anymore.

Trading Places (my fave)
Clueless
Anchorman
I Love You, Man
Robin Hood: Men In Tights
Talladega Nights
Bueller
Bridget Jones's Diary
Wedding Crashers
40-Year-Old Virgin
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
Spaceballs (if spaceships don't count)
10 Things I Hate About You
Silver Linings Playbook

And of course the best romantic comedy/movie/thing of all time, You've Got Mail

I would suggest "That Mitchell Webb Look" or "Father Ted" these are short funny and will take your mind off all the plane stuff. Or I would listen to some BBC comedy, this way the eyes are closed and the ears are focused on the sound.

Oooooh and LASTLY they have to be movies I've never seen. So classics and stuff are usually out because I've seen them all. I have this down to a science! Stuff from the last 5 years or so are safer bets.

Also I guess anything with tits is out if you're on a plane.

Not if you drape the blanket over yourself and your laptop to create a weirdo isolation cave.

Trapped in the Closet! It's so amazing you won't want the flight to end.

ETA I guess it's probably a classic but so good.

i haven't seen due date, but it has robert downey, jr., zach galifianakis, and a french bulldog in it, so my gut says it can't be all bad. but my gut can't tell me whether there are airplanes. dinner for schmucks had moments.

I made it with identity thief. It was sliiiightly stressful even though the violence was humorous. I think that my ideal ones so far have been 17 Again and Pitch Perfect and Housebunny.

I watched Pitch Perfect both on my flight to England and my flight back three weeks later, and I'm not even a nervous flyer. There is something about that movie and being hurled into the air in a crazy asparagus piece of aluminum that just works.

For the flight back, I suggest Undercover Brother (unless you've already seen it). There aren't any boobs.

The 21 Jump Street movie might fit the bill if you're still looking for stuff for the flight back.

Rock of Ages!! I still have to watch the movie. But the musical was hysterical and enjoyable. There might be boobs in some form.

I Love You Man is my favorite of all time! Awkward, hilarious, lots of great lines. Oh and Paul Rudd and Jason Segal in a bromance...win all the way around!

"The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover."

It's not only an amazing laugh riot, but it will provide endless delights even to people watching it without sound from the seat next to you. In fact, they will be so engrossed they are unlikely to initiate any unwanted conversations for the whole rest of the flight. Or eye contact, for that matter.
