I get to play with kittens that need socialization. Two little four week old Siamese ones that hiss when you approach which is the cutest thing ever and two Maine Coons that aren't hissy but are still adorable.

Today at work I got paid to run through a water obstacle course, then got to go home early because there was a field trip and the ratio of kids:staff who stayed back from the trip was like 10:6. Con: Lost like an hour of pay on a week with few hours anyway. Pros: I'm sitting at home in fresh clothes, eating the sandwich that I got to grill instead of eat cold, listening to Paul Baribeau and oh yeah, I have the most fun job in the world.

Mine are all about connecting with people. Yesterday I was out cementing two new friendships over dinner at a lovely vegan restaurant in London (they are both vegans), today I'm at the seaside in Brighton and going to a frozen cocktail night with an amazing creative friend this evening. Tomorrow I have a rare kid-free day and overnight with another lovely friend.

This happened yesterday, but i'm posting about it today.
1. I made Isa's cashew queso for our fourth of July party, and one our friends thought it was my mom's queso recipe. This is a big deal, because back in the day my mom was known for her fabulous queso. It is a very high compliment indeed.
2. My boyfriend and i got drunk with my parents and their old hippie friends. Not drunk, but drinking. This is kinda a big deal, considered that when we started dating i technically wasn't allowed to even see him cos my parents did not like him. So now they like him enough to let him spend the night, and give us alcohol, and well they just like him so that is awesome. My relationship with my parents is so much less stressful when they don't hate my secret partner.

Today: Went for an awesome hike with my spouse to celebrate his birthday and my day of paid vacation. We went to Castle Rock State Park, saw awesome weird rock formations and climbed on them, hiked about 7 miles and just had an all around good time.

Yesterday: nice one-on-one time with each of my kids, including a cliffside walk with my younger son and snuggling during fireworks with the older one.

Yesterday was my only day off this week and we went to the pool. It was the kid's first time there (he's two), and he loved it! My husband and I took turns to sneak off to the jacuzzi, which was great - it's probably ten years since I've been in one.

My homemade salt and pepper tofu piled high with sliced chillis and shallots (replicating a version I've had elsewhere) was super super tasty.

Adventure day in the woods! I took a book and read in the shade, snoozed in the sun, walked around a lot, and ate a bag of cherries. I WIN!

Second adventure day in the woods! 60km + 3 hours of hiking + a sunburn means I totally, totally get to devour a pint of coconut-y, matcha-y ice cream. YO.

A friend held an event at her hair salon to raise funds for Macmillan cancer support and it was a great day. There were lots of friendly faces there, vegan food and drinks and lots of punk music and brightly coloured hair.

I had to go out all day today, and successfully managed to avoid hearing the result of the Wimbledon final until I got home and could watch it on Sky+. Hurrah for Murray!

I had a job interview yesterday and just got a phone call from another organisation suggesting that I'll have another interview next week! The girl in the role I applied for wanted to call a couple of people directly to follow up on a couple of questions- hopefully that's a good sign. But why do I apply for a million things and then only get interviews when I'm in a leg brace and on crutches and leaving the house is a total ordeal?

Second best thing was that I had an MRI this morning! They originally didn't think I would be able to have one for weeks/months, but there was a cancellation. So I should know tomorrow whether I need surgery, yay for progress. I think I'll drag myself up and attempt to stand long enough to make a celebratory cake.

Satsang last night: My dear friend and I did a long thing in Sanskrit together, and it sounded incredible. Later, everyone got a turn to lead a song, and I was too tired to think through the easy ones I normally sing. So I lead the one that's been doing circles in my head (Ananda Janani), and rocked it. A capella. Very sweet. Very long, and hard, and lovely, and I rocked it. Yay!

The day is young, but something awesome happened at my job today! My boss offered me a position in charge of teaching Saturday Kids Art, which will bring me some much needed extra income. That, on top of the fact that I'll be teaching 5 days a week this year instead of 3, will give me some financial breathing room. Also, hello, new responsibilities! She thinks that I'm the most qualified person for the job, and I'm one of the newest teachers! She really likes that I'm punctual, that I take risks when it comes to art projects, that I communicate promptly via email and text (we both hate talking on the phone), that I'm highly organized, and that I'm generally an all around responsible person. It was so awesome to hear those things today, especially after feeling rather crappy the past week or so. It's like, finally my OCD control freak type A personality is working for me. Anyway, I will be in charge of organizing things, keeping her in the loop, writing emails, making sure the facilities are up to snuff and the employees are on track, plus coming up with extra exciting art projects for the kids. I really share her vision of making our community an art-based community, starting with the children, who will then hopefully grow up with the museum. As far as I know, I'm not going to be paid extra for these extra responsibilities, at least not yet...which stinks a little, but I got a fortune cookie recently that said, 'The man who does more than he is paid for will soon be paid for more than he does.' And I think that is pretty sound advice, especially in this situation where hard work is rewarded in the long run, mostly with more opportunities for work.

Anyway, I'm really excited. It's going to be a busy, busy year!

Vet called - Mar's blood work came back with good results! No vet visits for 2 weeks! First time in a month that we do not have to go 1 to 3 times a week! Woot-woot!

This is going to sound really weird. My mother sent me a huge box of dried rose petals that she grew and dried so that I can stuff them in pillows and the like. And the box smelled so so good.

That doesn't sound weird! I love dried herbs and flowers in pillows. I put lavender in my sleeping pillow to help me relax and keep away bad dreams.
I'm working at a cooking school where literally everything is not vegan (except bits of sugary fruit i sneak). I brought in my awesome balsamic tofu, pickled onion/garlic, and garlic-lemon cashew spread sandwich and the chef said it looked awesome. I was kinda expecting the people there to look down on my food choices, so it was really nice that she was into my sandwich and all its tastiness.

I am an herbalist, by trade, so for me... another day on the job.
The box was huge. I think she shipped 4 pounds of petals.

I am intrigued by the idea of the cashew spread.
