Im making one of the burger recipes in this months copy of VegNews. One of the recipes called for 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms, along with all the other lentils, onions, rice, wheat gluten, etc. I dont have the mushrooms.

Can I substitute anything else or just add more lentils? Has anyone else made these burgers yet? (the recipes are for the french style and the pretzel burgers).

I was thinking I could add more rice or some oatmeal +extra lentils...? Help?!

I would just add some extra lentils, maybe a quarter cup since they are denser than the shroomies.

thanks! I just went ahead and bought the shrooms...I hope this recipe turns out good. Sort of tired of making crappy veg burgers!

The burgers are DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I followed the recipe, and doubled it. The only thing I would do different is to cover them through the first half of baking so they dont dry out so much. But Im going to steam-heat/re-heat them, so no problem.

My non-vegan/meat and potatoes husband is chowing on one right now. Yes, they are that good! :)
