forking OW.
i was nearly doubled over in pain after being at work for about 20 minutes. so after printing up some midterms for my afternoon class (if i suffer, everyone suffers!), i was driven to the hospital by one of our school aides. drank a bunch of water in case it was a kidney thing and sure enough, i felt better 5 minutes after i arrived at the ER.
anyway, boring story super extra boring, i passed the stone when i produced my urine specimen but i wasn't sure it was a stone and felt kind of self-conscious about it, so i didn't say anything. how stupid is that? i looked at it a little later, since it was still in the specimen-collecting cup, and it had dried out and was totally crystalline, so i felt okay telling the NP about it. 3.5 hours after i arrived, i was on my way with an Rx to drink more water. ha.
best part: i left my keys at school and had to drag asparagus all the way back there from the hospital, which is two blocks from my house. at least i was smart enough to leave them in the ignition (!) so i didn't have to go back into the building.
also: forking OW.

I am sorry. I think I passed a gallstone the other day (well I'm pretty sure) but it must've been a lot smaller than the gallstones I've passed in the past. It hurt, I felt nauseous, I took some pain reliever and laid down then felt a lot better. In the past, I thought I was dying and thought an alien was about to jump out of my stomach.

And then you could've put it on a walking cane and built a park full of dinosaurs!

those things are no forking fun. I had one almost a year ago, spent the night in hospital and then took loads of weird drugs apparently meant to help it pass. I guess it did at some point because it wasn't there the next time they x-rayed me... Now I drink as much water as I can remember too, don't want one of those again!
Hope you're feeling fine now!
Anna

I am glad you survived! Welcome to the club. Your complimentary 5-gallon glass of water is right here.
Seriously, it's not just about water. Not sure if this is your first or your 5th but if you've had one you know you don't want another. I had three before I figured out it was my fancy calcium-rich mineral water (of which i was drinking buckets), and since I switched my water brands I haven't had one since. I always worried about calcium oxalate and how much tea i drink but it was definitely the water (and my nephrologist just said the equivalent of "well i could have told you if you had asked me"... too bad i didn't know her BEFORE i had the forking stones) I hope you never, never have one again.

i'm so sick of water already, but obviously i'm going to suck it up and keep guzzling tons.
i'm sure it was dehydration for me, and this was my first (and hopefully last) stone, so here's hoping NYC tap water isn't at all the root of the problem.
