I was just going to use an old clay-poking tool I have when I try polka dots. Almost anything could work! Toothpick, skewer, pin, pen, bobby pin, whatevs.

Nice nails Kelly, Nicole, Blondie, Baps, and Appi! There have been so many different shades of yellow, I like them all and it's a colour I want to wear more often.

So, is this week polka dots of any colour?

Kitteh I think so! And yeah, I can't wear yellow alone, so yellow on top of things it is!

This was my first attempt at polka dots and it turned out kind of crappy, but here it is (with background cat!):

Thanks guys! To make the dots I took a toothpick and cut off the end so it wasn't pointy. It worked pretty well, I was just nervous and shaky so my dots aren't perfectly round. Practice makes perfect!

The one time I did dots (look up thread) they were...bumpy. I loved them, they looked cool and my manicure lasted over a week, which is a long time for me since I cook so often (and type, open boxes, etc).

But like I said, they were bumpy. Any tips for getting them flat/smooth? Do you kinda move the dotting tool in a circular motion?
My tool is like the D in this pic http://asianaires.co.uk/wp-content/uplo ... -tools.jpg

Oh, and I missed the yellow challenge. I used my brand new stamping tool for the first time and did purple zebra stripes instead with a holo top coat. Came out good for my second try!

Mine are flat with the cut-off toothpick method.

Did you have a lot of polish on the end and did you tap the nail or just place a drop of polish onto the surface? Try lightly dipping the tool into the polish, tap a dot onto your nail, and hopefully there won't be so much polish that it turns out bumpy.

you guys i'm having polka dot anxiety! i've always thought they were so cute, but i've never done them, and i was all excited about this challenge because it meant i HAD to do polka dots, and now... so many colors! what if i get it wrong?! i was on pinterest for like two hours yesterday, ha! i'm the biggest weirdo.

also i have total kitty-mama stress (new diabetes diagnosis) so i'm essentially a giant frayed nerve. perhaps painting polka dots will be a good distraction. we'll see.

Aw, hun! *hugs* I hope your cat is ok :)

And try not to stress about your dotticure, polka dots look good no matter how they're done! Have you looked at tutorials rather than just pictures? Here's one :)

Also, most people don't see your nails up super close anyway. So even if you see flaws, I bet they look great to other people.

Yeah don't stress about it. They're a bit tricky at first but once you've got the hang of it, dots are super easy. Although I do find it tricky to do my right hand, I suck at nail art on my right hand because my left hand is really shaky!

Eeeek I love everyone's polka dots!

I've wanted to try them for ages but they seemed scary! After a lot of procrastinating & looking at pictures on Pinterest I used the tutorial Kitteh linked to upthread and went crazy with the colours.

I used a pinhead not a dotting tool and I would suggest only putting enough colour onto the cling film to do one hand because by the time I got to the second hand a lot of them had gone gunky (mainly the non-Orly polishes) which left weird nail polish hair things on some of the nails on my right hand.

Image

The polishes I used were Orly White Out, Orly Fresh (green), Orly Blue Collar, Orly Fancy Fuchsia, Barry M Bright Purple and Mode Cosmetics Say Cheese (yellow).

Kitteh, I love your dots! And Melodious Utopia looks awesome on you, which makes me super jealous. It looked terrible on me.

Jojo, your crazy colors are so fun! They're like funfetti nails.
