Proof that there is a vegan deity.

I found out through Nathanael Johnson and confirmed at Meatpaper.

Seven years and twenty issues. What does this mean? Does it mean anything?

Things I have learned from this thread: there once was a magazine called Meatpaper.

True. I’m a light on content. This was even my feeling after reading Nathanael Johnson’s post. I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to take away from his piece.

I guess this topic comes down to. Hey, look, news! So it’s appropriate for the Parlor in that sense (could have been Foyer material as well).

I wonder if I’m alone in being perhaps irrationally glad at the demise of the magazine though I’ve never actually read it. I’ve seen it around, and the concept just annoyed me.

In a broad sense, I’m curious if the hipster meat trend is winding down a little. But, I’m interested in hearing just about any responses.

See. I could read pages of just these sorts of responses all day.

Maybe I’m wrong so here’s some contention.

Perhaps Meatpaper was a good thing, a necessary part of the reform of industrial animal agriculture. No, it’s wasn’t a messenger of animal use abolition, but perhaps it’s a needed mouthpiece for progression of animal welfare.

I had heard of it! My local bookstore shelved it right next to VegNews, like I guess because that was the uh specialty food magazine section. It made me a little tense.

I'm hearing it set to the "Matchmaker" song from Fiddler on the Roof.

Meatpaper, Meatpaper,
Paper some meat,
Write on some skin,
Print on some feet.
Meatpaper, Meatpaper,
Meat is your book,
I'm wondering what the fook.

Or, as Hamlet put it, "By heaven, I'll make a paper of him that meats me!"

Now I've got Donna Summer stuck in my head. Admittedly, there are worse fates, but it's not fitting my current mood.

1) Desdemona, that was awesome.

2) It is actually a goal of mine to someday get paid, yearly if possible, in oversize novelty checks.

Its readership, one: an elite tapir
But when turning its pages
Induced hir to rages
Ze rolled 'em and smoked the sweet vapor.

there's still a German paper called "Beef". http://off-the-record.de/wp-content/upl ... 2/Beef.jpg (disturbing picture! ... whenever I see this magazine on the newsstand I feel sick)

Wouldn't Butcher Paper have been a better name for a novelty magazine about meat?
