SOS, PPK. I've managed to befriend a couple, one of whom is a good cook and the other is a professional chef. Last week we all went to Green Earth in Pasadena because it's low key and inexpensive and now they say we must do this again. Where would y'all suggest taking a couple of culinarily adventurous omnis who'd never had an explicitly vegan meal until last week?

My only conditions are not RFD because whenever I go there I feel like I could cook better for cheaper (it's a 5 minute walk from our house) and not so expensive that when I offer to pay (and they invariably turn me down) it doesn't seem like a ridiculous empty gesture (based on a college kid's budget).

I don't know the Pasadena area that well. I was going to recommend Kingston Cafe, a Jamaican place where my husband and I once had a terrific meal. They only served a couple of vegan entrees amid a lot of meat options but these were excellent. However, I see from googling that it's now closed. :(

Other than that, Sage Organic Vegan in Echo Park is good, if that's not too far for you. For dessert, I'd also take them to one of the Scoops locations. There is one on Heliotrope and one in Highland Park.

You might want to also check the New Vegan or Vegan-Friendly Restaurants thread, since a lot of places have been mentioned there (not just new ones).

I think there is a Veggie Grill coming to Pasadena.

Both places are super casual (order at the counter), but I really like Taco Spot in Eagle Rock and Father Nature in Pasadena. Le Pain Quotidien is also an option in Pasadena; although, it can be a bit boring.

Not sure when it's opening, but there's an Urth Cafe moving in on Colorado - roughly 3-4 blocks west of Lake.

Yes, it is. I saw it mentioned on the back of their takeout menu where they list new locations that are coming soon. I've also found this online post about it. According to that, the new location will be a block from the Pasadena RFD.

What. I am so excited about this that puts it within a 2 block radius of my house.

Also, returning to this thread—I ended up taking them to Shojin and they were extremely impressed.

I'm glad you found a place that worked out! Thanks for letting us know how it turned out.

Hey Pasadena PPK peeps!

Going to a trade show next week....taking a coworker out to dinner. She is NOT vegan, but I want to go to a vegan-friendly restaurant! (one that serves alcohol - well wine)

Anyone have any recommendations for a good vegan-friendly (but not exclusively vegan or vegetarian) restaurant?

This place looks kinda cool, there are some vegan options http://www.168pasadena.com/

But I would definitely like more options.

Probably way too late but someone just told us that there is good vegan sushi at Kabuki and there is one of those over there.
